Not to be a prophet of doom, but jobs are few and far between in Burns, population 3,000. It's out in the middle of nowhere with few industries. I was just there last Labor Day weekend, wanted to get away from the bustle of the Valley. I enjoyed seeing Burns again but I found it dreary. The downtown has SO MUCH potential if the population base could just support more businesses.

Default Living in Burns

I think you will enjoy living in Burns. We lived there for nearly ten years, but felt we needed to live closer to medical facilities as we got older, so we relocated to Prineville.

For a small town, you will be surprised at all that Burns has to offer. They even have a community orchestra, chorus and bell choir--open to anyone in the community. The price of homes was always high, which never made sense considering the depressed economy there. There are numerous outdoors activities as you will be about 30 mins away from some of the most beautiful mountains in eastern Oregon.

The weather can be a little brutal in the winter, but it kind of grows on you. You can have snow from September through early May--extreme case. I've even seen a flake or two in early June. Some locals think it's a mild winter if they don't have to cross country ski to Safeway

Have a great adventure in Burns! I think you'll love it there!

I lived in Burns and loved it - great people and wonderful country. Jobs are few and far between I suppose but worth looking into. It is a friendly and open place - pretty conservative politically but evn a liberal like me found it a great place to live

Isn't there a casino in Burns/Hines area? (I thought I saw a sign pointing off the main road once).

Default Casino in Burns

Yes! It's located behind the Ford dealer....can't remember the name of the street that runs behind it though.
