So is this a two lane bridge, four lane or what? Is living west the only direction that involves a bridge? What about living south?

The bridge from downtown to West Salem is 4 lane, HOWEVER, 2 lanes go to West Salem, the other two go to Hwy22 toward Dallas/the coast. So, actually there are 2 lanes that go across the bridge and dump out on Wallace Road (West Salem). Heading from West Salem to downtown there are 4 lanes.
Living in West Salem is the only area that crosses a bridge because you are crossing the Willamette River and once you are in West Salem you are in Polk County. The rest of Salem is in Marion County. While there is not a bridge to South Salem, there is Commercial Street, it starts as four lanes, becomes two lanes, then 4 again. It is the "main" route so it can get congested at times.

We have left Salem, but we lived in the general area of Wallace, out in the Doaks Ferry area. We never had any crime. If you look at the schools, south and west seem to have the best. All of Salem is getting really built up. I don't know if that is good or bad. Maybe that means more jobs? I always wished that would build a new bridge connecting west Salem, but that has been everyone's wish for decades. It can be a real hassle. When that guy was going to jump off of the bridge a few summers ago, it took 4 to 6 hours to get across the bridge and get home. My poor daughter was home from college and working. She got off of work at 5 pm (in south Salem) and made it home to west Salem at 10 PM! It was ridiculous!! There was no other way home and it was a mess. I like west Salem, except for the bridge issue.
