Hello Summertime!! Was really sorry to hear about your kitty going to heaven on Nov. 14th, and wanted to mention that first off. As far as Brookings goes, I did look at the Emerald Coast Estates existing resale housing and the prices are higher than what we had wanted or are able to pay. The monthly HOA fees are also very high. We live in an "organized" community here at have an HOA with park, pool, clubhouse, picnic area and playground and it is gated and only costs us $300/year! I know. Almost unheard of anymore. We will get some time to look at Brookings last week in July. We would probably not consider other coast communities because of the blustery weather. My parents owned a house in Rockaway Beach (north coast) and lived there 9 years. Mom's arthritis got very bad there - and it was almost always cold and often windy. Many a 4th of July was spent there when I was a kid. . .it was either lovely and balmy or often cold, cold, cold and windy! I love having read about the Chetco (?) effect in Brookings akin to the Santa Ana conditions of southern CA. I am familiar with Santa Anas because of living in San Diego County from 1986 to 1994. As for your 'karma' ruining places you've moved to. . . I had to chuckle! Keeping a sense of humor is critical as we continue our search for 55+ places to live!!

We've been here in Ashland, OR for a little over two years. We like it here very much but miss being near the ocean. I daydream about buying a place in Brookings but get discouraged by the amounts of winter rainfall, in addition to the constant fog. Is it really all that foggy and rainy in the winter? Anyway, good luck in your searches.
