Hey, I'm just pointing out my personal interactions with family and those I know in West Linn ( not everyone in West Linn is like this -- but I'm sick of people saying those in West Linn are more "down to earth"). If anything, their constant need to prove themselves as equals to Lake Oswego makes them come off more snobby, in my opinion.
Disagree with my personal observations all you want, but I've had many interactions with countless people in West Linn -- many of whom feel the need to prove themselves to those living in Lake Oswego. Not my problem! I'm perfectly content living in the original bubble!
PS: It isn't just about wealth. I've posted many, many other reasons why I feel Lake Oswego is a great place to live. I can repost those reasons if you want!

But I keep hearing that people in West Linn are more "down to earth and friendly" than those in Lake Oswego. I couldn't disagree more.
It seems, from even the relatives I have in West Linn, that many are saying West Linn is finally superior to Lake Oswego. Why? Because recent reports show the average income is higher in West Linn compared to Lake Oswego. However, the average family income is still higher in Lake Oswego. The bottom line is: for decades those in West Linn have hated being 2nd to Lake Oswego and now feel they have evidence to prove otherwise.
Typically, it's those in West Linn, not Lake Oswego, who feel they have something to prove to those living in other cities. "We're just as good as Lake Oswego!!!!" they scream. But who can blame them? It's been difficult living in our shadow and being the Lake O wannabe for so many years .
The facts remain, though...
Lake Oswego has the reputation. We don't need to flaunt it or prove it because we've got it. But many that I know in West Linn feel the need to flaunt and prove themselves because they haven't always had this reputation and still don't completely have it. This makes them come off more snobby and less down to earth because they always feel the need to prove they are equal to Lake Oswego. I'll admit, it is a nice ego booster that they try so hard to be equal to us . But it's kind of annoying, ridiculous and even more snobby because they keep bringing it up!
Many people that I've talked to in West Linn always have to bring up, "well, you know West Linn has surpassed Lake Oswego in bla bla bla". BUT even if West Linn surpasses Lake Oswego in average income AND average family income (which they haven't), Lake Oswego is a city with decades of wealth, which has made it a place of envy for those around the state. Driving around Lake Oswego and West Linn, one can see the differences clear as crystal.

I have never personally heard WL resident's act this way or try to compare to LO. But then again, I've only lived here a year, and am not from Oregon. I just wanted to share my reasons for choosing WL and what I love about it. I do remember in my home town a couple of the affluent cities being this way! I did hear the back and forth on why their city is better, haha.
I personally do not care if LO is more affluent, or has better things to offer. In fact, if it were up to me from the get go, I would be in Sherwood!!! Hubby was set on WL and talked me into it. But I will say after spending time in LO and WL when looking for a house (hubby liked LO too), I was more impressed with the "feel" of WL. I am an old fashioned at heart, so it just felt more peaceful here for some reason.
I love both LO and WL, just prefer to raise my kids here! Oh, and knocking WL this bad, and making LO out to be the biggest paradise on the earth, sounds a bit snobby to me???

OK, this is cute!!!
Good Lord, control yourself- again, with the money. What are you folks compensating for?
I couldn't agree more; that's the point! ~

Now this was funny! Thanks for the good laugh SeeBee!! The comment--"It's been difficult living in our shadow and being the Lake O wannabe for so many years" is just rude and ridiculous. I cannot imagine a good majority of WL thinking this way! I bet 99% of residents could care less! Everyone I have come in contact with, are very down to earth and love LO with no reservations. Odd,,,

I've lived in Oregon my entire life...trust me, I've hard my fair share of snobby'ness from those in West Linn.
I just wanted to counter the idea that those in Lake Oswego are more "snobby" and that those in West Linn are more "down to earth". In my opinion and through my interactions, I've found that those in West Linn tend to talk more about how their city is now "equal to, if not better" than Lake Oswego. Which, in my opinion, shows they care more about affluence and finally being considered equal to Lake O. But us over here don't really care about those issues, we have nothing to prove !

I don't know about that, from the looks of this thread you started, it looks like you have a lot to prove?? And being as I LIVE in WL, the people here are extremely down to earth and very friendly. This is a big reason why I preferred it here. Trust me, I would not live surrounded by snobby people, who constantly try to live up to LO standards, haha.! I am very involved with my daughter's school, have met some amazing residents from mutual people, and I find them all to be very pleasant and non-materialistic! Not sure why this is such a big deal to you anyway? So say WL do feel they are now "equal", so what??

No, I don't have a lot to prove. Just some setting the record straight was in order. That's all!
