Oregon Beaches
What are the "real" temps of the Oregon beaches in the Summer. I know that will vary with the specific beach. I am considering a relocation to the Oregon coast or Colorado in May 2010. I have checked the weather stat on city data and they show that the beach towns average mid 60's to low 70's in the Summer months. However, have read some posts that state that it gets into the 90's. Some information from real residents would be greatly appreciated. I know this covers alot of beaches and if I need to be more specific I can. I really haven't decided on a specific location to live as of yet. My wife will not consider relocating to the coast if the Summer temps never reach above mid 70's.

Ohhhh boy. Truth, you can vary 30degrees if you go 2hrs either way. Brookings was hitting over 100degrees,(l think it was 106) and here in Coos Bay, we were like 75degrees, same time, same day. We were in the 80s recently, and 45min. north, it was about 70. Then you can have 80degrees one day, and 60 the next. Varies a LOT.
Then factor in if you go inland at all. Standing on the sand, you can be at 70degrees, go inland 1 mile and its 85.
Oh man, i dont know if this is gonna help you out or confuse you more....
but hey, if she likes the hot weather, Brookings does usually get hotter than the rest of us, and has lead the state a few times for highest Temps.
Best of luck!
Tiffany

Tiff is right, but I will go one step farther. The beaches on the coast can be darn right cool, lots of wind. If you find a small sand hill and go to the other side the temp can go up 10 degrees.

mikemorrow is right. I don't know if this helps, but I routinely walk the beaches in Lincoln City, and even during a single walk, the temps change. So, I always wear layers which I can take off or put on, accordingly. Also, I think the best Oregon beach weather is in the fall, when there isn't the summer wind and the temps are still nice.

Thanks to all of you. It would have to be consistently 80 degrees or better for the Summer months or it would be to cold for my wife. I will check out Brookings and other beaches in the southern part of the state. I just didn't trust the City-data weather #'s.

I live in Brookings (which is the southern most town in Oregon) and will attest to the reality of the "Chetco Effect" as it is known. This is the area people speak of when they say temperatures can get into the 90s. We have a micro-climate here, different from the rest of the coast. Temperatures in this area are warmer --all year long-- than anywhere else along the Oregon coast (and the northern California coast). Temperatures here often climb into the 90s during the summer and early fall months. The further inland you are, the warmer the temps.
Right along the coast where I live, it is usually in the high 60s to low 70s much of the summer but there are many days where it reaches 80 and above; and then there's the occasional 90+ heat wave which lasts a day or two, of which we all complain! None of us moved here for 'heat.' But, go inland one mile and it's always in the 80s and 90s during the summer; you'll get the occasional dusting of snow, too, come winter.
The differences between coastal Oregon and Colorado are shockingly extreme. Does your wife really understand what she desires, climate-wise?

Yes I think that she does. She wants it to be 80 degrees or above in the Summer months.

You should probably wait until after the elections.
If John McCain wins, global warming will continue, and Oregon's beaches will become warm enough for your wife.
If Barack Obama wins and he performs his magic ( "This is the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow", then global warming will end and the beaches will remain too cold.
