The home is three bdrm. two bath fam and liv rm. its inland from coast about 45 mls so east of Brookings off of hwy 199. Would you be interested in something like working for them? Well, I am sure I can make friends anywhere and would not mind living around folks older than me. In some ways, it's better I think.
Heading back again to check out more areas. I only got as far as Newport this time. I liked what I saw and prefer a smaller community, but have no worries with commuting.

"What I object to is the "doom and gloom" verbage intermingled with perceived "facts". Steve is one of those who does that quite often. How many times do we have to read gloom, fog, and no sun, in his posts?!!"
Just to prove that there is validity to this claim that the coast in NOT all fog and gray, I obviously could not have provided all of these scenes if that were the case! All in all there are 20 videos listed here and just shy of 20 stills as well. Not a fog shot in the bunch... check out oregoncoastescapes.com to see what I mean.
Also, my 2 cents to karenfromaz:
Yes Brookings is more retirement than Coos Bay, however there is 4 times the population in Coos Bay and one of the largest if not THE largest hospitals on the Oregon Coast and yes they are ALWAYS looking for qualified RNs. The local community college actually started it's own nursing program because they could not bring them in fast enough...
Whatever your decision, you are well on your way to a great one wherever you choose.

Bay Area Hospital is the hospital in Coos Bay. Their web site is Welcome to Bay Area Hospital. You can check job postings there. Better yet, come by and ask to speak with the nurse recruiter. I am sure she or someone else would be happy to give you a tour!
Yes, I work for BAH and have for 22 years. I am not a nurse, so I can't speak for their working conditions, but there are many nurses that have been there 20+ years.
I have also lived here in the Bay Area all my life (45 yrs). It has been a good place to live and raise children. My husband and I are considering moving out of the area at a later date only because I have never lived anywhere else and we want to see more/experience more. It has been a colder/windy than normal summer in my opinion, but it is not hard to go inland a few miles to experience warmer temps and get out of the wind.
Come check us out-I hope you like what you see! :0)

Karen,
I am a nurse at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, CA. We are always looking for great nurses. The pay and benefits are competitive with larger areas in California. We are small, 59 beds, but we are mighty!! I encourage you to check it out. They have in the past offered relocation $$ I relocated here last fall from Northern WI.
If you wanted to "try before you buy" you could always take a travel assignment before going permanent. I know they are looking for 2 travelers soon.
Let me know if you are interested, you can e-mail me at jennybird1973@hotmail.com
I am not a recruiter....but I do know who you can contact if you are interested. She works at the hospital and is the person responsible for me relocating here.
BTW.....I live in Brookings, approx a 25 mile drive to Sutter Coast

boy, i wasnt even thinkin......but it hit me today, I dont know how much its going for, and its not within sight of the ocean, but theres a little house near me that is a "short term rental" Ive seen people stay in it for as short as a long weekend, the longest, about 3 months. Its a little 1bdrm house, fully furnished in a good neighborhood. Anyhow, if you are interested in the Coos Bay/North Bend area, (we have some terrific nursing homes and a wonderful hospital) I know the little house is empty right now.
anyhow, if this interests you, gimmie a holler via DM.
- btw, isnt it great all the positive responses youve gotten from so many wanting to help you out?
Best of luck!

jenjenrn4life
Hi jenjenrn4life,
It's nice to see another RN who resides in Brookings! I'm an
RN too but am working in the central valley of California and
traveling to Brookings whenever possible to breathe in the
fresh coastal air and scenery while we're at our little 2nd home there.
We'll be up there again in the next month. I would love to learn
first hand about nursing jobs in the area. Right now I'm in Public Health and loving it. But....not loving the heat or the dirty air.
How on earth did you end up in Brookings from northern WI???
Karen
