I've seen more provocative phrases than that go untouched. Forgive me, by 'sleeper cell' I did NOT mean terrorists of Middle Eastern extraction. I meant the 'end of the world' survivalist types waiting for the grid to go down so they can take control of a confused and terrified populace. Never mind, all I was trying to say is Oregon is a number of very different physical areas and to my mind living in an area that pleases one aesthetically is of FAR greater importance than the politics of the residents. There are probably fully out ***** folk living in Alabama. Is it wise? No, but I give them props for living as they are, where they want rather than all wanting to move to San Francisco or New York which they probably couldn't afford if they did. There, have I fixed things or just made them worse?

If that's the case, then they're everywhere. I know there's at least one of them in my town.

Thanks for this thread! I assumed most of Oregon was progressive==that's the reason my husband and I want to move there. Now I now where to avoid to stay away from towns that are too Conservative--ha ha!
And it's funny that you think the Christian community in Eugene wouldn't be as or more "narrowminded" than the Lefties. Puleeze! It takes many kinds of people to make a society; it does feel more comfortable to be among those that share your values, but in reality we all have to learn to get along, right?

There’s one in my town, too. I walk by his house often. The next time I see him I’ll ask whether he wants to get together with yours to form one of Leisesturm’s eastern hills militias.
Of course, maybe it takes more than two to form a militia. If that’s the case, they can always do what typical conservative working class people invariably do: sit around together, get bitter, cling to their guns and religion, and show antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.

Yeah, one of the things that annoys about liberals is the superiority complex, also the assumption that every radical group out there is Conservative.
The Al Qaeda accusation is a new one. Ummm, excuse me, but who's leading the War on Terror? Kennedy? Pelosi? Reid? Not exactly. Conservatism is fighting that crap. Also, Leisesturm, like most liberals, is female. Yeah, I said it.

The Aryan compound in North Idaho was closed years ago. There will always be ignorant haters out there, but it's no worse than any other part of the country.

VA, so nice to see you. Why did you blow a perfect opportunity to start over as friends? Your continued assertion that I am female despite my direct contradictions to that effect means that you must be trying to tell me something. Whatever, if we were in a bar somewhere I'd have to ask you to step outside, lucky you.

Not All Females Are LeftyLoosyLib
Just a note: Not all females think like Liesterm.. thankyou. I for one do not. In fact, the more I discover about the LeftyLoosy LIBs, the more I realize how much they have irrepairably damaged our society. 1) They are HYPOCRITES. While they wangle on and on about Diversity, you'll never see one actually living in a "diverse" neighborhood. No, because they are clever enough to realize that Crimes occur in those neighborhoods, and they really like their artsy fartsy cosy safe lifestyles. No, Diversity is good -- but only for all the other poor people to deal with. 2) They are the most INTOLERANT people there are. Why do you think they invented Political Correctedness. They really can't deal with people not agreeing with them, so they have tried to fabricate the MYTH of their own intellectual superiority. Ha, ha. Most of them can't perform simple Algebraic equations, let alone evince any truly impressive analytical or critical thinking. And this is one of the reasons why they are 3) Ultimate CONFORMISTS. Portland is a true study of these types. The Mayor (the new Gay Mayor that Portland is so proud of?) just denied the HOMELESS tents and toilets that a small group of truly good-hearted activists were trying to set up for them in downtown Portland. The ruling PC faction of Portland is incredibly condescending towards the rest of Oregon. Eugene is pretty Wacky, but I think, essentially more honest. One really neat thing about Oregon is that there are many different types of people and a true 'diversity' of THOUGHT. So, don't be discouraged where-ever you wish to move in Oregon, because there are nice people tucked away everywhere here. [and Evil ones, too, I imagine]

I agree that he is male, although I don't think it matters.
Although I don't agree with him on a lot of things, as far as I can tell, he seems to be a very reasonable person. That's why I wanted to let him know that he is probably wrong if he thinks that militias and other such groups are prevalent in Eastern Oregon.
