Well I think you guys gave the OP a good idea of the different ideas that permeate Oregon. While Oregon has a reputation for being liberal, a good chunk of the state is "red" when you look at election voting. Having said that I lived in Portland and had many conservative friends who were just fine.

Generally speaking smaller towns tend to be more conservative. Scio, Sublimity, and Silverton had wonderful schools for small communities. I live in Salem and there is a good mix of liberal and conservative here. The politics here do tend to be more moderate compared to Portland or Eugene.

I wouldn't worry too much about the politics of Oregon. It is a mix here. I would focus more on what type of environment that you want (access to culture, cost of living, etc) then go and visit those towns.

You wouldn't last 30 seconds outside. Never mess with an artist--martial or Venusian. By the way, I actually thought you were female, but whatever.

No, of course not. But most libs are, in fact, female. Just look at who supports the left-wing candidates in elections. Who are the Obamabots, after all, middle-aged guys? Not so much.

Conservative women are hot, by the way, as far as I'm concerned. Reputation sent your way through the forum interface...

Democratification is extremely strong in Multnomah (Portland)
Washington and Clackamas county are close to neutral. Washington county is a home to significant city(Beaverton, Hilllsboro) and agricultural use(Cornelius, North Plains) though
but it's also quite noticeable in
Lane(UO) and Benton(OSU)

Multnomah county is bordering socialism, so much that liberals actually approved a county income tax from 2003-2005.

These resources might give you some idea.

Default quite liberal

Many may recognize me by my user name. That's why I used it that way.
Scio is very liberal, I was on the city council. I am conservative and found out what 5 vs 1 votes are like. the Schools know what is best for your children, not you. As for drugs, yep. they're everywhere, of course, but Scio made High Times magazine for it's psycilociben mushrooms. Meth? yep. Did my first line in the Baptist church parking lot. Weed, what do you think?

I have since gotten more and more right leaning and finally bailed on the whole west coast. I moved to Arkansas and bought a place in the country. I will NEVER live in Oregon, especially Scio, EVER again. The city is indicative of the whole liberal mess.

Thanks and good luck.
God bless

Ever hear of " Live and let live", or is that only a northern New England mentality?

Most of Oregon, (geographiclly),is middle of the road or a tad right of center. It's Portland that's as liberal as they come. And yes, there are the hypocrite liberals that tought diversity but slam any opposing view that deviates from the "liberal manifesto".

However a lot of the liberals are a little more sane and simply passionate about the environment and tolerance of alternate life styles.

Your best bet in the Portland area is Washington and Clackamas counties where things are more sane.

Outside of Portland you should be OK just about anywhere except for Ashland/Eugene.
