San Diegan wanting to what cities are more conservative
I have visited Oregan many times over the past 30 years. I love the beauty and slow pace of this state. I have a friend living there too and she loves it. We are considering making a move, wanting to slow things down a little and enjoy God's beauty. We are more conservative and have been told that Oregan can be pretty liberal. Only reason that is a consern is because we have had some nasty things said to us by people who have different views and I hate feeling like I don't have freedom of speach and lifestyle.
Just want to know if some areas would fit us better than others, or no one really cares.
Thanks.

What do you want in terms of "God's beauty"? Is it snow capped peaks or rolling hills? Shoreline or prarie? Do you want Willamette Valley lush or High Desert arid? Define the geography and topography of what you want and we can recommend locations to suit. In general Oregonians don't say nasty things to strangers. Your conservative values won't be a deal breaker but I would strongly advise you take my advise. Why? Because, in general, the further west you go the more liberal (in general). I would hate for you to head for the eastern hills and live amongst militia armies and sleeper cells just because you heard they were conservative. I am just not imagining you as a rabid neo supremacist.

They're in Bly. There was an Al-Qaeda terrorist training camp that got busted there years back. That accounts for the sleeper cells at least.
Militia armies... They're more west of the mountains down here in the State of Jefferson.

Don't move where Leisestrum lives; obviously politically correct hate-mongering reigns supreme there.
Portland and Ashland are the most liberal areas with Eugene and Corvallis close by. Eugene is quite liberal but also has a sizable Christian community to offset the narrow-mindedness of some on the Left.
Most small communities are going to be quite conservative so you won't have to worry about discrimination. Avoid Portland like the plague.

All of Southern Oregon is Conservative dominant, except for Ashland.
Eagle Point is the most actively Conservative. It is north of Medford 10 miles on hwy. 62. It is the gateway to the lakes city, very beautiful and filled with farms, green hills, mountain lakes and streams and very nice people.
best wishes,
freedom

Thank You all. Didn't expect to hear of sleeper cells etc. I have lived in San Diego my whole life so i am used to comfortable weather all year. I think I would really enjoy four seasons, but not extream. My husband teaches High School Math and specializes in Special education so we wouldn't want to be too rural. I love the coast and the mountains don't mind valley and dessert area as long as they don't get too hot and ton of snow. I probably do better with cold than with heat tho.

The sleeper cell thing never actually happened. A Seattle man with ties to Al Quaeda went to Bly to visit a group of Muslims (who had lived in Seattle) with plans to set up some kind of training camp but it never happened and he was arrested in Zambia about 2-3 years later (in 2005).

There was a cult (Rajneeshpuram) up in Antelope (sort of up by the Dalles) which everyone found sort of amusing, right until they started poisoning people. Their town has been disbanded, leaders arrested or in exile.
There are various white supremacist groups in the Northwest, concentrated more in the Idaho panhandle and bits of Montana than anywhere else. Also various religious groups, which may or may not qualify as a cult, often living in group settings.

Leisesturm, the person who wrote "live amongst militia armies and sleeper cells," is a recent transplant from New York City.
While traveling from NYC to civilization in liberal Western Oregon, he might have seen some Eastern Oregon deer hunters or some people on their way to do a little target practice. Because they were white people with guns and in a rural area, he probably assumed they belonged to a militia.
Perfectly understandable for somebody new to the area. It happens all the time.
