Thanks....I do love living here so.
Ive got to agree w/the oddity of having the campground there in town....my folks stayed there one time when everything else was full....they were less than pleased...but i was thrilled! Only because after dropping my kids off w/them for a week of camping (elsewhere!) my alternater went out about a mile away. I only had to walk back that mile to get to them for help. lol Other than that, no so impressed. But...on a high note, it IS closer to shopping.......(hey, just looking for a positive here! lol)

We still had a good time despite the noisy, crowded, wet campground. The hosts at the campground were wonderful. They were an older couple and they were so incredibly nice and accommodating. When we realized that the firewood we bought in town at IGA (for $5 a bundle) was wet and wouldn't work, the campground host offered us some dry wood. We then learned that they sold (dry!) firewood right there at the campground for $4 a bundle. Anyway - Devil's Lake would be a decent place to stay if you really want to save money and you want to set up a home base in that area for things like shopping as Tiff mentioned. There's also a wetland area there with a boardwalk that takes you through a 14,000 year old sphagnum peat bog with information boards that tell you about the plants and wildlife that you can find there as well as info about peat and how it forms and why it's important. The signs said that the peat was 35 feet deep. That was pretty cool, seeing and learning about that. The boardwalk through the bog takes you to a trail that leads under a hwy 101 bridge, along the D River, and then finally to the beach. That was fun!
