Post Want to Move "HOME"

My family and I are wanting to come home. I have 3 growen daughters and 2 kids at home. Boy 13yrs and girl 7yrs. We live in Chehalis Washington and it is time to return home. We have a home here and I am excitied that housing is becoming more affordable. I know this is distressing for people in the business. Anyway..from what I can tell Grants Pass..which is HOME is a bit more expensive in comparison to say WHite CIty. Can anyone tell me what they think of White City and most importantly what are the schools like? My boy is in 7th grade and that is a hard year for most kids. We also want to know if the weather is similar to GP or is it hotter? Any ideas would be helpful. We are looking in the $200,000 price range for housing. THANKS

The weather in White City is very similar to Grants Pass, although there is much less precipitation on average and thus the area is much drier and, by some accounts, less pretty. White City has a lot of industry and is an unincorporated county area (despite its name!). It's not really the most desirable part of Southern Oregon, so housing will probably be cheaper. To be frank, White City and Eagle Point have a reputation for being a bit "hick," but that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad areas. Don't think I know enough about the housing market to tell you what you could get for $200k in either GP or WC.

Middle schools are terribly overcrowded in the Grants Pass school district, though the high school is very nice and there are many good teachers there. I don't have first hand experience with the schools in White City.

Here's a link to state-issued "report cards" for all school districts and schools in the state: Report Cards - Oregon Department of Education. Not sure how helpful those will be, but the one you'll be interested in is Eagle Point S.D. 9 (Jackson County School District 9-HOME).

If you want to look more into the GP schools, the "city" district is Grants Pass School District #7 and the "county" school district is Three Rivers School District. (GP #7 doesn't line up exactly with the city limits.)

I'd venture a couple miles north and go to Eagle Point, much better schools, and less issues than white city. Many nice homes in your price range.
