Looking for input on Ontario, OR & Payette, ID
In our endless quest to find a better place to live, with a healthy quality of life and growth that's being managed wisely, I'd like to learn more about Ontario, OR and Payette, ID. We're looking for a small but progressive community friendly to Liberals but still a "small town" feel. Thanks.

If you are choosing between Ontario and Payette, I would go for Ontario. Payette is a rundown town. But if you are looking for a small town but close to a bigger town, for shopping ect... try looking at Fruitland ID. It is grown (not to fast) but is very close to Ontario. My husband and I were looking at moving to Fruitland. Real Estate is cheep and all the people we have talked to that live there, love it. My cousin has lived there for a few years now, and still loves it as much as the day she first moved there. Hope I helped a little.

Ontario OR schools are on the state watch list because of failure to provide a minimum education.I use to live in Nyssa (next door) and the 25.00 sewer tax sure hurt when I only used 5.00 worth of water. If you are looking for a school system, stay away from Ontario. My girlfriend is getting ready to sue them-numerous academic problems plus changing her son's grades and classes (no parent notification) so he could continue in sports. No jobs in the area unless you want to work for Or-Ida or one of the prisions in Ontario.

I used to work in Ontario, and I wouldn't label either place "progressive." Maybe Weiser (sp) or the McCall area (ID) would be better bets. MCCall for sure has a community of friendly liberals.

I used to live 10 miles south of Nyssa in Adrian. The area really seems depressed as far as jobs unless you want to commute to the Boise area. When I grew up there, in the 80's, it was a neat place. The Adrian school was good and I think it still is. Today, I'm not sure how people survive financially. I have a LOT of family that still live in the area, but I wouldn't move back unless I was going to Boise where the jobs are. I used to love Ontario as a kid, but that was then and this is now. I hate to push Boise, but that is where the jobs and growth are.
