Question Best Cities Young Family in Oregon

Where would be a good place for a single income family (couple plus infant) to move in Oregon?

My husband would need work in the construction/manufacturing/woodworking area (CAD, drafting, design, project engineering, estimating), and we'd need to be able to find a job for him in the $60,000 range.

We're not looking for anything in particular -- just safe, affordable, and a stable community.

Thanks!

We're just starting our downturn in those areas, so the search might be lengthy, but I would concentrate on the major metro areas.

Assuming he's got AutoCAD experience, then the best places would be in and around Portland. Try going to careerjet.com and look for AutoCAD jobs in Oregon. It will give you an idea of where the jobs are and what some of the salary ranges are too. It would be best if he had some good leads before moving to Oregon - it's getting tougher to find work.

The manufacturing sector has been hit hard. I agree with smiled that it might take a while to find employment. Salem is the cheapest of the metro towns.

Corvallis has Corvis, ATS, and HP (which is downsizing and laying off ).

Not sure what is in the manufacturing sector in Eugene. Anyway...Salem would be your best bet for affordability, but that is not a huge sector here.

If you go to www.statesmanjournal.com, that is the local newspaper and you can see what is out here locally. www.Oregonlive.com is the Oregonian's website.

There are many smaller towns surrounding our larger metros, which offer more affordability.
