Feedback on Winston
Any thoughts, insights, anecdotes you might have on Winston (and how it also can relate to Roseburg) would be good.
Thanks,
Gidge

It's not far from Roseburg at all. I been by there several times. There is some kind of a wood products factory just south of town which is probably where some of the people work.
The downtown is small but would be walkable. It looks like many towns in Oregon used to look about 20 years ago.

I would not say it is a rich area but depressed may be a bit too strong to describe it. People do seem to be working there and it is growing.
Weather- more sun than Eugene and about 39 inches of rain. It's still going to have some gloom during winter. You can look up the city-data page for it and see more details.
It's so close to Roseburg that I believe in future it will be a bedroom community. I just don't know about the politics there. There's a lot of young working people to be seen around town. There's also some retired people.

more sun than eugene would be very very nice. thanks for your insight. i may have to move there for a good reason, and i just was curious as to what to expect. i still can't get used to the gloom of oregon winters, but i have no choice at this point.

GLOOM...ugh, this is why I am on this website...looking for a way out!
Anyhow, I live in Roseburg and I have to say, I don't like Winston AT ALL. Green District (right before you get to Winston) is booming with brand new beautiful (affordable too, comparing to Rsbg) homes, but I hate Green too. It's mostly younger families who can't afford Rsbg...and many 1980's Farm Home subdivisions...which most people have completely let run down and trashed up the yards. But, imo, is better than Winston.
Roseburg is much more desireable if you have to choose. Yes, we get much more sun than Eugene, and warmer temps. YAY!

Winston & Roseburg
We live in Myrtle. IMO, Roseburg and Winston are not much different than any town in the USA. There are some areas where residents might be able to do a little better keeping up their properties, but where in the country are you not going to find that? The people in Oregon are assets.
As to the rains. At least we have a reasonably clean and adaquate water supply, something that may be more of a future issue in many areas of the world as we humans continue to infect it and conservativism dictates investments in infrastructure. Having lived in 7 states, we have only found one without some problems with water.
Peace.
