Default Housing in West Central Area

Hi, I am a disabled woman diagnosed with PTSD in 2002, who is sick of the winters of Wisconsin. Liberal, laid back, my journey of healing has gone well in the last six years and would like to start over in Oregon and complete my journey of healing, I am thinking of next year (before the hard winter hits here). My past is not my fault, however my future is my responsibility. Eventually, my goal is self-sufficiency. Right now I need low-income (I receive Social Security) rental for disabled. I am looking at moving next year and was thinking of the West Central Area. Where I am living now is a small town, which I like, 5 minutes from Lake Michigan. However it is six months of very depressing cold winters. Don't mind the rain, just that -12 degrees for 3 months can get a little old. Does anyone have any suggestions. I really appreciate your help.

When you say west central do you mean like the Willamette Valley area around Salem/Corvallis/Eugene? Corvallis and Eugene are both great towns and would probably be better suited for your needs than Salem. Both offer plenty of services and being college towns have plenty of rentals. Both are smaller towns. The winters here are long, grey, and misty - but definitely not that cold!

If you are willing to go farther east and don't have to worry about seeking work, since you are getting disablity, you might consider Baker or some of the towns in central Oregon like Helix, Condon, etc. They have various degrees of winter, but nothing like Michigan. They also have a lot of scenic beauty. They are very inexpensive to live in. Mainly becuase they don't have huge job base. But if you are getting a government pension. you can live quite well for quite little. You can still find a very nice home in Baker for around $80,000.
