Default I have to get outta here! Coast bound tell me what you know!

I have to get outta Idaho! Always dreamed of moving to the coast- have made several trips out to the coast and have searched from top to bottom and love it all! I need some information on where is the best place to move on the coast and still be able to make it! My main concerns is really the number one reason I want to move to the coast - my mom. She is terminally ill and its her dream to live on the coast so we're going to do it! So I need to know about a city on the coast that
1. has a hospital
2. has jobs (I'm a teacher and I know it will be like heck freezing over to get a job but I'm flexible!)
3. social services (disability, etc)
4. housing- what is it really like????
5. schools are like....???

Any information would be super great! Thanks!

First, I admire your devotion to your mom's dream...! More children should... I'd better get off my soap box...

It appears health care is the primary concern. You will need to stick to the "bigger" cities on the coast, ie, Astoria, Lincoln City, Newport, Coos Bay... I may be forgetting a couple. These cities are also close to major inland facilities that may become necessary in short order...?

Let me know how your investigation goes and I'd be happy to answer any other questions if you email me direct.

I agree with Steve - what a great thing to do for your Mom! I think our laid back lifestyle here on the coast would be great for both of you.

I'm in Astoria. We've been rated one of the country's best small cities to retire in. We have a great local hospital and our medical community is growing rapidly to accomodate an aging population. columbiamemorial.org We have a vibrant arts scene, great independent restaurants, we're minutes from some of the most fabulous beaches. Another great resource is oldoregon.com, the site of the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce.

Our rental market is tight and I often refer clients to craigslist or the local paper, dailyastorian.com. If you're in the market to buy, you can buy a smaller home for $200k. I'm a local realtor, so feel free to email me if you'd like answers to your more specific housing questions.

I have two elementary aged children and we love the schools. Both of my kids are well challenged and the warm, caring environment really encourages a sense of community. We love it here!
