I've never really been to Chicago (besides making a mad dash through the airport to catch my connecting flight) but from what I know, Chicago and Oregon are very different. I was born and raised in Oregon and love everything about it. Being your age and enjoying a lot of the same activities; I recommend the Hillsboro/Beaverton area. There are a lot of younger people in that area and there are some fun and local bars. Its 15 minutes East to downtown Portland (night clubs, concerts, sporting events) 45 minutes West to the coast (seaside is the closest most popular beach) and 30 minutes-an hour along the columbia river gorge (my favorite place to hike) There are a few dog parks in Hillsboro also. And some of the hiking spots along the columbia river gorge are dog friendly but you can scope those places out online first. There are a lot of townhouses and condos for rent and for sale in the hillsboro area and again, fun spots for people our age. As for golfing, there are about 15 courses in about a 20 minute radius. Some great high end courses and some cheap but fun courses. Theres a starbucks on every corner and some great book stores (some connected to starbucks) so I think the Hillsboro/Beaverton Area has everything you need.
