Default Would you call eastern Oregon "desert"?

I'm not sure it's a good word for eastern Oregon. A lot of the "high desert" is actually pretty forested.

Most of the state of Oregon is Eastern Oregon. It covers a lot of square miles and the terrain and vegetation are varied. Most of it is not what a typical person would think of as desert. A Bedouin would complain that "it rains all the time."

Yes! Desert does not necessarily mean 'no trees', but it could have a different 'forest'. The Saguaro Cactus Forests in Arizona is a good example.

Much of it is, in fact, a treeless desert. Parts are considered arboreal high desert. 'Desert' is just a way of describing an area with little rainfall - hence, terms like "polar desert." Some trees are adapted to reduced rainfall, and can in fact take root in certain deserts.
