Default Oakland ... Good place to live?

I've been looking for a place to buy with some land in the Roseburg area and there just doesn't seem to be much of what I'm looking for there. Now I'm focusing on some of the smaller towns to the north and south and wondering what people have to say about Oakland, OR. It's a very cute little town when just driving on through but what's it really like? Is there anyone on here from Oakland or who lived there at some time? (preferably not too long ago) I'd like to try to get a feel for what this little town is really like.

I have no kids so schools don't matter to me. What matters is the people who live there, climate, recreational opportunities and cost of living. I've not read much on this forum about Oakland so I thought it was time to start a thread. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ladyflyfsh,

I've been reading your posts about moving from Montana to Oregon. I'm on a journey from Arizona back to Oregon. My sister lives in Oakridge, and I've visited a few times; it's beautiful.

We're city people thinking of relocating with other family to Glide on a larger parcel and doing the yurt thing to get a feel for if it's the right place to build.

Glide is just east of Roseburg...is it just not finding a property or something else about Roseburg. It looks like that's the nearest town to Glide.

I was thinking of Corvallis until the concept of a larger parcel with more family came up. I'm a little worried that Glide is too remote for me and my family, with two little guys, 3 and 5.

I'll ask my sister to post so you can dialog about Oakridge. She moved there from a ranch in eastern oregon that was more like Montana!
