Know anything about Silverton
I originally put the wrong name of Silerdale. Just wondering if anyone
has any idea what the town of Silverton is like. We're from sunny Arizona and need a change! Any input is gladdly appreciated.

I wanted to bump this up.....I'm in the desert too, and we're considering a move to Oregon, thinking about Silverton, Estacada, Mt. Hood areas.
We are late twenties, crafty, liberal, nature-loving, snow-loving, community-loving people. We have previously lived in DC, Mass, San Francisco, LA, Seattle, and Olympia.
All the ideal things we're looking for (and hoping to find at least a few):
-within an hour or two of a major airport.
-somwhere where people are having babies--I am a midwife, so communities with predominatly aging populations won't work.
-a town that is failry integrated with nature, e.g, has trees, parks, not overly concreted out.
-nearby wilderness is important to us
-friendly population
-a creative community....people making things, public art, etc.
-a community that works at keeping itself vital and relevant
We're planning a visit in May, but any feedbcak in the interim is much appreciated!

Wow a liberal that is not for zero population growth, awesome.
Anywhere north or south, south has more babies per capita.

My boyfriend and I are also from Arizona (phx.) I grew up there. We moved to Or 3 years ago. Been in Silverton 2 years. We love it. It took a little getting used to at first. Not as much shopping and a bit gloomy in winter are my only complaints. Everything else is great. Weather is mild. People are super friendly and liberal. It's beautiful here and the town has plenty of arts, antiques, jazz festivals, concerts and events going on always. The town is very charming. We checked out alot of the surrounding towns before choosing Silverton and none of them compare to here. It's close to Citys, mountains and beaches. We love it.

If you can handle the rain & overcast skies, you should love it...Great wilderness areas, (Bull of the Woods, Table Rock etc), waterfalls, rivers, mountains etc....But you won't be truly accepted until you drive a prius or a diesel pickup; (minus the gunrack and running on biodiesel of course)...
