Default oregon taxes

Wondering, we live in Oregon and my husbands company moved to Washington so he is working in Wa. Wa has no state income tax so do I have to have his employer take out for Oregon state tax even though we dont work in Oregon?

Default Oregon Taxes

We were in a similar situation. My understanding is that since you are residents of Oregon you will still pay Oregon state income taxes. Therefore, even though Washington does not take taxes out of the check you should set aside enough $$'s out of your income to pay Oregon taxes at the end of the year. The Oregon Dept. of Revenue has a good website that should explain this better and also give you an idea of how much you should be putting away for taxes.

The way to beat taxes is to live in WA and shop in Oregon. That's not too practical though and let's face it, the states we live in have to get their money from somewhere. (Not that you are trying to do that, I'm just sayin'.)

My guess is that OR will require the income tax be paid regardless of the source of income.

true - If you are an OR resident you pay OR income tax, irregardless of source. If you are a WA resident who gets income from OR based activities, you pay OR income tax. (on the OR portion of your income)
