Yes, heat here in the Rogue Valley is HOT. Most of July and August will see PLENTY of 100+ degree weather. It doesn't cool down much at night either. You will find that most homes and ALL newer homes have AC, and for good reason!!
As for homeschooling, this is an awesome area for it. There is a great network here, Jackson County Home Educators 541-734-3243. They are a wealth of information. Many people are homeschooling in the area - I know you will find a lot of support here for it. Let me know if you have any other questions about homeschooling, I may be able to answer them! I homeschool our 5 year old, so am just starting out. Our church has the most amazing homeschool group, so it's been wonderful!
Welcome if you come - it's a beautiful place.

Wow, thanks to everyone for all the info. I'm still hoping we can make a trip to Oregon sometime this summer. It is good to hear info about summers in the Rogue Valley.

I will definitely expand my search to include Eugene as well. I'll keep you all updated on my quest!

The thing about Rogue Valley heat is that it is pretty much restricted to July and August. Heck, everywhere is hot in July and August except for the Northwest Coast. In places like Texas it starts in June and ends in September. Two months of heat is more bearable than four (or five in some places).

I lived in Arizona (Prescott) for seven years and never had a summer as uncomfortable as last years was here in Grants Pass.
The hottest summer I have ever seen in Southern Oregon was about 10 years ago ('97?) when we had 25 days above 100 degrees. Air conditioning is a necessity if you want to be comfortable.
