Default How's things in Lincoln City? :)

We will be in Lincoln City next weekend. I heard there was some flooding around the 1st or 2nd of this month - how are things now with the flooding and weather? According to the weather websites and news, it's supposed to be nice and sunny next weekend!

Also - what are some recommendations for fun family things to do and good casual family food?

Also - is there some kind of place or group of people who will take you out and teach you how to fish or go crabbing or clamming? We're city slickers, but we want to learn!

We're camping at Devil's Lake campground - is that a good one? It's our first time there. We've always had good experiences at the state campgrounds, but never stayed at any in that area before.

Lincoln City is basically a casino town and not much anymore for families. That campground is OK, but not great.

What I might suggest is camping at Beverly Beach in Newport. The kids will like Depoe Bay, and in Newport you can go to the (free) Hatfield Marine Science Center (very recommended), The Bayfront (where you can crab off the docks), Th Aquarium ($$, but excellent).

Or you can keep your plans for the LC campground and drive south daily to spend your time.

We love Newport and that area. We are Aquarium members so we do that trip several times a year. We always stay at a place called Schooner's Landing when we go there. It's a timeshare condo place, but we've always just walked in and they've set us up in a nice place. It's not too $$. We have spent days at Beverly Beach, but never camped there. That is a fun area.

My husband wanted to try Lincoln City this time around because of two things: 1. There is a wood carving event being held at the Casino that he is interested in seeing (and it looks like there are soap carving activities to keep the kids busy ), and 2. he's also interested in blowing some glass. He found a place in Lincoln City that will let you do that. It seems pricey to me, but it's his birthday so he can do what he wants!

Dad also wanted to yurt camp... and because we were making these plans last-minute, the only yurt available and close to Lincoln City was at Devils Lake. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Now... I just need to figure out how to make a birthday cake over a campfire! And wouldn't you know it... he doesn't want a regular cake - he wants a Strawberry Shortcake and strawberries are so totally not in season...
