Default For future reference- agricultural employers in oregon

Hello everyone,

I've got a background in ag science, and I hear that Oregon produces some great crops. I've been contemplating a move to Oregon for awhile now (overcast days suit me. ) I won't actually move until the economy picks up again, but I'd like to start doing my research and making contacts now, if I can. I'd appreciate any information about local ag based operations (names of companies, location, etc.) that anyone could provide.

Thanks!

Well, if there's anything like that in Oregon I'd consider it as a possibility, sure. I only graduated with my B.S. two years ago, so it's not like I'm set on any particular career path. Right now my job has more to do with the testing and quality control end of day to day production.

Hello,

Check out the ag paper- The Capital Press. Maybe you can find a job in the classified? They have good articles and encompasses Oregon,Washington, California and Idaho (I think).

Good luck,
Kim

Let's see the University of Oregon and Oregon State both have some research programs. Norpac might have some positions for folks like you in quality control.

The Extension Service is a good place to work; I used to work at their Experiment Station up by Wilsonville.

Is the soil really that good in Oregon west of the Cascades? I've been looking for a good gardening spot and the soil I've seen has been surprisingly average, rocky clay. Most of the agriculture I've seen has been grass seed, tree farms and vineyards.

I'm not sure specifically whether you are looking for science, or agricultural? What is your degree in? I'm going to school right now for biology/plant biology. I found a company up there I'm keeping an eye on for when I can move back home someday. It's called Excellis. They are a biotech company with a plant research center in Woodburn, and an office in Portland.

After 8 months experimenting in Savannah, it did not take long to get back to Oregon.

In the agriculture or horticulture field, I couldn't imagine a better state. Californica impressed me driving through. But climate-wise, I like Oregon.

Pack up your wagon, and come on out
