Which coast town is the best for a part time home. I need to have an ocean view. I really don't want to be in a snow area. I thought it only rained in Oregon?

I don't know half as much about the coast as these wonderful locals do. I will let them answer your question.
About clamming...get a Shellfish license and find the best clam areas...there are certain areas that are better than others. Remember, there are daily limits as to how many of what speices you can take. We loaded up on cockles one day...and made fritters! Yum!
Clamming is a great social event!

Yachats Oregon in January 2009. I love the color of the water here! my camera makes it look kinda hazy out over the horizan, but it was actually beautiful blue. love it here!
and hey, I added three other pictures (a ocean wave hitting the rocks in an impressive spray at Yachats, a shot down devils churn, and one of Empire Lakes here in Coos Bay) in the Oregon Photos Thread at the top. Go check em out and tell me whatcha think....

That my friend, depends on what kind of town youd like to live in, what kind of beach you enjoy most (rocky wild cliffs, long stretches of white sand) if you want to be more secluded, or with plenty of neighbors...
some more details on your dream beach please.

Do they allow clamming at this beach?

appearently you have to pay to go on the beaches in other states. I thought people were pulling my leg when they told me that, but i guess its true!!! Imagine having to PAY to walk on the beach!?!?!? weird.
They allow clamming on most beaches/bays. also fishing/crabbing/ and other grand activities that bring you yummy treats. But ya, get a licence first. Theyre only a few bucks.
oh, and you'll find different clams in different areas. Empire clams, razor clams, cockels, gooey ducks, the list goes on. And its not hard, my kids have been doing it since they were just little buggers. Just watch those tides!!!

So, which beach town is best to live in? Tiff, if you could live anywhere, where on the coast would it be?
Yesterday, I booked a beach-front camp site at Harris Beach. They were all booked until mid-September, can you believe that?! Anyway, we got a good spot for 9/13 and 14, after which they don't take reservations so we can stay as long as we want.

For me, I prefer the solitude and wild ruggedness of the Yachats area. Thats always been my dream retirement spot.
Although, i spent the day not so long ago along the Brookings/Gold Beach area, and its now a close second.
Crazy enough though, Yachats remains the top spot because of the weather. Theyve seen plenty of beautiful tshirt days, but doesnt get too horribly hot. Gold Beach actually held the record a few times this summer for the hottest days in the entire state. They had several that went over 100degrees. And that my friend, is just too warm for my happiness!
Beach wise though, they are both just breathtaking.......hard to chose! Guess I'll have to lottery out and get a home in BOTH!! lol
oh yeah, campgronds fill up FAST! Theres places that are booked for the entire YEAR within an hour of opening the reserve spots. Amazing, until you spend a few days there, then you see why the mad rush.
But ya, look up in the top thread for Oregon, the photo one, and i just posted a few pics of Yachats and it give a teeny glimpse why i love it so.....

Me too. I've been living in So. Cal desert area where my husband was born. I was born in Oregon, and want to go home. With the housing mess here though I have to wait until a better time to try to sell the house though. Can not wait. The Oregon beaches are the best anywhere. I love the cold brisk air. Just wakes you up, and clears your head.
Of course it does rain all the time, every day, on and on. LOL.
