Default Photographing local wildlife

I LOVE the outdoors and animal life in Oregon, and would love any advice on how to get pictures of the local wildlife, raccoons, beavers, moles, coyotes, Elk, Seals, etc.

I have tried getting pictures of seals swimming along the shores but it seems really difficult to focus on them, any tricks to this?

Orcas or Whales I hear come into bays at times, any idea on the best time of year and location to see this?

Also a lot of the natives don't come out till night, are there good places to go shortly after dark and wait to get some photos?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Come up highway 58; you can often see elk down by the river after you get past the resevoir.
