I suppose it all depends upon exactly what you are allergic to...trees, grasses, mold, etc. I grew up on the East Coast, and have lived all over this country. I'm currently in Arkansas, which is pretty horrible for someone with allergies. I'm bothered here year-round. One of the main reasons I want to move back to Oregon is because I wasn't bothered by allergies when I lived here before. As long as I lived anywhere close to the coast, I could breath like never before! Guess that good salt air really cleans one out! At any rate, I've been miserable here in AR year-round as long as I've lived here. When I recently traveled to OR on vacation in June/July, it was fabulous. No coughing, sneezing, wheezing, etc. I think it's just so individual...each person reacts differently. You'll just have to see for yourself!

The worst place for allergies in Central Texas, specifically the Austin and surrounding area... It always makes the "hotspot" list on Weather.com. It's pretty bad. Cedar in Feb, flowers, mold, trees, weeds, you name it, this area has it, and all year long. Ugh.
Thank you all for your postings on Eugene allergens! We were planning on moving (back) to the Willamette Valley, Eugene this time - away from the allergens here in Georgetown, TX. Guess we'll have to look elsewhere in OR |

I like Eugene, but it makes me sneeze, congested and I get watery and itchy eyes. I go there every June for the Track and Field events that attract some of the worlds best runners every year. But my body just reacts so negatively within the first 30-60 minutes we get into town. I think it is because of all the grass seed that is grown in that part of the Willamette Valley.

Allergies are specific to individual triggers. I had no problem in CA or the east coast until my 40's. I have always had a terrible time in CO in the summer. Now, my triggers include 2 kinds of damp mold and one kind of dry mold. I have the same allergy problem everywhere in the country now, year around, except for the summer CO thing that gets me so bad none of my meds seems to help.
You can move to a new area and develop allergies to stuff there. Dry places help some people but not others. Pollen isn't my problem, except for maples. Until you get tested, you don't really know what your triggers are and you can spend a whole lot of money and effort fighting triggers that don't affect you, personally. |
