You might want to research
Portland Public Schools and see what you think. I've heard good things about Buckman Grade School and Franklin High School, both in SE.
The inner Southeast neighborhoods have good schools and steady home prices. Neighborhoods in SE Portland- Belmont, Hawthorne, Division, maybe Sellwood, Woodstock, Clinton. All have older houses with charm, many 1900 bungalow styles.
You might want to research the schools and then you can check the school boundary maps on their website to corresponding listings. Of course, the best schools are in the most expensive areas of town, but I think you can get a good value and good schools in the Division Street area and the Woodstock neighborhood.
Good luck!
