Happy Birthday Oregon!

We bought some of the special Oregon sesquicentennial ice cream that Umpqua made just for the occasion - it's really good! Huckleberry, honey, hazelnuts.. mmm... local flavors. show subcategory | Umpqua Dairy

We're looking forward to a fun day on Saturday. I love that Oregon's birthday is Valentine's Day. I never liked Valentine's Day. I believe every day is the day you show your loved ones how much you love them. It just seems like one more overly commercialized holiday to me which totally turns me off. But now that we live in Oregon, we have something real to celebrate.

Looks like it's going to be a sunny day too! Of course, you never know in Oregon.

There is lots of celebrating going on saturday. The big one is at the capital building. I hear there's going to be a cake big enough to feed 3,000 people! There are also lots of activities planned, check your local papers for all the details.

I remember the Oregon centennial in 1959, I was just a young kid, there was a big celebration at the Grants Pass Riverside Park. I had my Oregon centennial t-shirt and my Davy Crockett hat, a good time was had by all.

I think the plans for 150th are going to be even better.

I do too! I was real little, but remember all the men in the family growing beards for the event!

I watched the news and saw the big and tall birthday cake for Oregon. It had white icing. The Governer was there and there seemed to be a lot of kids too. It looked like a good time for all. We didn't have much going on here at the coast. However I think the whole state has plans for different events during the year.
It's good to be living in Oregon!

My favorite type of history is reading those stories written by the explorers and homesteaders themselves. I think it gives you a much clearer picture of what individuals when through to get here.

I think this site is interactive, but my computer can't open that part of it.
There's a list of people who settled right in Oregon City. Anyway, I think this site is pretty neat....
