Default Are there any big mountain towns

Are there any big mountain towns in Oregon??

places that have lots of trees and snow.

By big I mean.... a town that has "most" of the amenities... grocery store, auto parts/repair, drug store, medical/dental, hardware store, department store, take-out food etc.

Not really looking for bend or la pine....

Thanks

Sandy's probably the closest to being that. Might not get as much snow as you'd wish, though.

Ashland might be a fit. If it's not big enough, Medford is only a few miles down the road.

What about Joseph? Looks gorgeous, but quite remote.

Bend? Or Sisters? City of Sisters Oregon Would Oakridge or Westfir be considered mountain towns? They're in the foothills... beautiful area though, and Oakridge is growing. Joseph, Wallowa, and Enterprise are worth checking out, too - they are near the Wallowa mountains/Eagle Cap Wilderness area in the Northeastern part of the state. There are a lot of towns near mountains, but I believe most of Oregons true mountains are within government-owned lands, aren't they? Might be hard to find a place right on it, but you can find lots of nice places right outside it...

Neither of those are mountain towns. Ashland's on the side of a hill though. Medford has no snow or trees. Medford is actually really awful. You are not looking for Medford.

I'd also suggest Sisters perhaps...

I would think Sisters as well, except OP said they are not looking for Bend or La Pine. La Pine is actually pretty small though. Sisters is much bigger.

I'm relatively new to Oregon so I don't know it too well. When I think of a big mountain town here though, I think of Bend. There really are not many larger towns in/near the mountains that I know of besides Bend.

Ashland is on the side of Mt Ashland, actually. There's a ski lodge on the mountain so that makes it a mountain town as far as I'm concerned.

I need to spend more time in Ashland. Everytime I'm there, I'm so happy! It has a really good feeling to it. All in all I'm not crazy about southern Oregon.... well... Southern central Oregon... the southern coastal area I love and the southern eastern area is wild! But I'm rambling... Ashland is a cool place.
