Your thoughts, experiences? I personally really enjoy the Vista House, and have been there a few times. Pretty drive!
Here are some pics: (attached) |

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I've never even heard of it before. Where exactly is it? It looks like it's above the Columbia River. Is it near those Falls? Was it something historical at one time like maybe an old fort?

It is above the Columbia River, fairly close to Multnohma falls. Quite a beautiful little place to visit (made obvious through Xthedistance wonderful photos) but I will say this, DONT visit on a really windy day!! It can get brutally windy waaay up there!! Oddly enough, Ive been there to the Vista house several times throughout my life, but Ive never actually made it INSIDE lol.
BTW, its been in a couple of movies, including Short Circut (that one comes to mind cuz my kids watched it again just the other daylol) Tiff |

Even though the drive can be a little dicey during the winter months, it's absolutely beautiful. Particularly if you can hack the drive just after an ice storm. The falls are gorgeous when frozen. |

I get to look down at this joint everyday,
(even right now)at night is has perimeter lights and a dome, so looks like a space ship ! (a selling feature for my house, or so the assessor thinks...) My favorites are when watching the Blue flashing lights of snow plows working on that hill during a snow storm. Also the clouds come cruising down the gorge below the grade of the Vista house, and often have to jump up over it due to the outcropping rocks. The wind shear creates heat that dissipates the clouds enroute , or sometimes they whisp up and over (very pretty). Tough to leave home... good thing I don't have a job. But... the wind does howl, next time you see the newscasters struggling in the wind at Troutdale... think 700' higher and a mile narrower space for the wind, and consider what that might look like !! I'll see if I can drum up some photos, but I think I only have blizzards. And the nice camera just broke... |
