Default Thinking of relocating - Tell me about the bugs??

While researching a move to the Pacific Northwest I got caught up in the snake discussion and began to wonder about the bugs up that way. How bad are they? Do the mosquito's really get that bad in the Grants Pass/Rogue River area?

I'm a weather wienie and need to have a temperate climate. I currently live in Santa Barbara and hate humidity and very cold temperatures. I can live with a few really cold days a year (20 ish or so) but prefer my winter weather to be at least 45 degrees. Then of course the summer's can't be too hot either. I love it to be about 75 degrees or so (I know, then stay in Santa Barbara). I would love too but our house burned down in the wildfires this past November. We were under insured and would have to take another loan out on our house to re-build it. With the housing market then way it is that seems foolish.

DH is thinking Memphis (his family lives there), I would love to move to the Pacific Northwest (even through we have no family there). We'd be moving with our home schooled 10 year old son.

Any other suggesstions in Southern Oregon?

Thanks - SBGal

The bugs aren't that bad...the bats and lizards eat most of them.

Oregon is significantly cooler than coastal S CA and will not meet your mild weather criteria. Also, the Grants Pass area can get some hot days. Not usually as bad as the central valley in CA, but along those lines. Memphis also does not have a mild climate compared to coastal S CA (few places do) but your property $$ will go a lot further there than in CA or OR. (A temperate climate is not what you get in Santa Barbara. SB has a coastal Mediterranean climate - much milder than temperate climates.)
