Changes in Mitchell OR area (Bend: home, buy, camping)

I have not been to Mitchell OR in a long time. I was giving some thought to come up a few times this year to just drive around and hike in the back woods up North of town. I used to be able to drive north on 207 for about 3 miles and take a road that cut through the hills there went way back in about fifteen miles or so. and then you could go north and west back to 207 and the Ranch up there or back to the South and east and come back into mitchell from the east. Most of the land used to be BLM of USDF and or Hudspeth lands. I noted that you folks have ruined a bunch of land for a gold course but not any 4X4 trails or Rifle Ranges around anywhere. What no one goes deer hunting in Mitchel any more?? Or maybe camping in the hills?

Doesn't seem like I want to move up there and buy 40 acres to put a little home on does it. I guess I could call somebody in Bend to bring me a few loads of Cement and some lumber to build me a lean to. Don't worry I will make my own electricity. say 5000 watts and such. I will also build a catch pond to take care of the sewer. I normally like a zero foot print.

Such is life maybe I can move to Idaho or Colorado or AZ or NM They like hunters. Seems OR doesnt anymore.
