Friendly Oregonians?
I've read in a few posts here that Oregonians (generally) are polite but not especially smiley faced friendly. Well, if this forum is any indication, I would beg differ.
People have been so gracious anyswering all these questions. Even when they've been asked and answered already. The insite provided here really helps an out of towner. And there are lots of posts that end in Welcome!
I CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE THERE!

It seems to me that people do smile more in places like southern California. Though The comments of yours are about Oregon. I just wanted you to know that you won't see so many smiling faces.
It all depends on the community. Here at the coast people are pretty friendly. Some places in eastern Oregon that is not so. You have talked about moving to the Portland area and I don't know much about it there.
However thanks for your nice comments concerning the people of Oregon on this forum.

I live in Portland, but I am from the east coast, I don't think people in Portland are unfriendly, I do however think they are not very quick to start a conversation, such as Hi how are you, Or just some general topic about anything. I did notice I am always starting conversations with people here, more than I did back east, and its all the time, I don't like that feeling. I find it difficult to get information in this town about various things, and a number of times when I have asked a stranger a question about a place or thing, I have been getting the response No English. All in all when I get someone to have a conversation, they seem nice enough and friendly, but I can't honestly say I found Portland as friendly as I thought it would be, Im sorry, but Im being honest.

So true. Can't explain why, but I have noticed it too.

We, who are lucky enough to live along the Coast, are happy and friendly because.......we are always on vacation. Just a thought.

That must be it! People are just more relaxed.
I was out and about several places today. Just about everywhere someone had something to say. They were all friendly and I didn't usually start the conversation.
I like the people here.

Gee, after all the research I did, now I have to look at coastal cities and towns. My work is never done!!!
Any suggestions on coastal towns that have a bit more sun than Northern Or?
Thanks.

Don't think you'll have much luck finding any in the South Coast region. In Coos Bay/NorthBend it's always raining not to mention hurricane force winds. Not much sunshine.

I looked it up on city-data. Brookings gets more sun than Portland. It is a small town which may not meet your needs.
Coos Bay area gets slightly less sun than Portland. Now the rain amounts will be more on the coast and we don't have hurricanes. When storms come in during winter they often bring some strong winds. You'd get some winds sometimes around Portland too.

I have found that almost anywhere you will find people who are not friendly at first, but after all, when they see your not someone to fear, they warm up after awhile, and yes some parts of the US are worse than others, but I always heard that Portland people were down to earth and very much themselves and do not put on airs, I hope that is true, esp if we move there! I really want to live on the west coast, so does my better half too, we are really hoping this happens!
