Default How much more?

Tell me how much more............

Sanctuary State.
How many more people have to be robbed because of illegal aliens?
How many more people have to be raped because of illegal aliens?
How many more people have to die because of illegal aliens?
How much more can our tax system take because of illegal aliens?

Government.
How much more can the state take with business/industry take with high capitol gains tax?
How many people need to be laid off yet because of business/industry leaving because of the high tax rate
How much more can Portland be laughed at because of a fibbing mayor?
How much more can the state take with it's Liberal government policies?

How much more can this state take with Liberal people moving here from states that they voted for Liberal agendas only to have said agendas get out of hand and destroy the state they just moved from?

Gotta ask yourself how much more can YOUR family take for all this before you all wise up.

Just asking...........

OP is a little out of touch it seems. Not to mention maybe a bit rude. Now, think about it. Illegal aliens aren't coming up here to rape our women and kill our men. They're coming up here to TAKE CARE of their FAMILIES back home. They do jobs Americans, especially younger generations, would NEVER do. Dirty jobs that would be unfilled otherwise. I'm not saying it's right, or that's good. But they're PEOPLE, human beings, and they deserve to be treated as such. If things were tough here and I couldn't support my family, I'd make a break for the nearest border if I could get some way to support them on the other side too.

My best friend as a child was the daughter of illegal immigrants from Mexico. They were hard-working people. They had jobs where they worked their a*ses off, were "good" Christians (for what it's worth), helped out in the community, integrated themselves into society and American culture, and were the kind of people you'd want to have for your neighbor. If given the opportunity, a lot of these illegal immigrants would be just like that. They're just people, just like us, but without the opportunity in their home. We can't just think "US US US US U.S. US US"... We have to work together to make things better for other people too. What the U.S. and Mexico, the corrupt NAFTA, big business, et al, are doing now, obviously isn't working, however.

As for the businesses leaving the state for greener pastures... Well, there is a good point there. I say good riddance. What we need to do is create better opportunities for smarter, sustainable business and jobs, not just for Oregon, but for the country. But then again, it stems back to the inherent capitalist corruption. For someone to make a buck, they have to do it at SOMEONE'S expense.

And as for Portland's "fibbing homo mayor"... First of all, as a friend and family member of many non-hetero people, that is offensive to even point out his homosexuality in this context as if it were an issue. YES, he lied and YES that should not be tolerated, but he is human, and is a politician. Bill Clinton was a decent president, for a politican, and yes he lied too. But things went comparatively smoothly back then under his leadership. Sam Adams is still a good mayor, despite his personal imperfections. Had he had an affair with an 18 year old WOMAN (not girl), would that have made a difference? Two consenting adults. What's the big deal with that other than the lies he told about it? Not to sweep those lies under the rug by any means...

That's my two cents from this, as the OP would call me, "P.C. liberal," despite being Southern Oregon born and bred. And for the record, I don't trust "liberals" OR "conservatives" farther than I can throw them.

People need to be smart about the issues. It's not as simple as "liberal" or "conservative." It just isn't.

It's good to have places like this to vent and air frustrations, I guess. It's unfortunate that people feel the need to name-call.

Illegal is still illegal. What exactly happens to you when you break a law? Far as jobs that "others" or "whites" won't do? Thats a crock. For one I know of plenty of kids ages 12 to 14 and up that have nothing to do all summer long besides maybe get trouble that could be out doing work instead.

Capital corruption? Explain please?

Adams having a affair with an 18 yr old woman and fibbing about it wouldn't be any different. Problem is most people in the law field call what he did as "grooming." Why is it offensive that I called out his homosexuality? See to me that is one of the problems we have in this country now a days. People can't call it like they see it. Why cause they "might" offend somebody. Kind of sad really.

Name calling? I've been called a lot of things in my lifetime. Never bothered me cause I, me, know better than that. This "sensitive" nation we have become is quite disturbing.

There's a little thing we have called labor laws to protect kids from doing work that would be dangerous for them. And what are they going to do after summer is up and they go back to school? I know for a fact that the issues affecting troubled teens these days (I was a teen not too long ago myself) are deeper, fundamental societal problems that can't be worked out simply by making them do some good old-fashioned hard work. Giving them dangerous jobs in construction, or making them pick fruit, do janitorial work, etc, isn't going to work Those are the jobs Americans refuse to do that many Mexicans are quite happy to do because at least it's a job. Though I suppose in the current economic climate that may be changing.

Calling it as you see it would simply be calling out the affair. It is redundant to say state the mayor's sexual orientation, and just seemed unnecessary.

And if we aren't sensitive to these "screw ups" then how is society going to progress past 1950 in its attitudes? How people talk about things often is indicative of their basic attitudes towards something. It's not being sensitive so much as I see it, as being intolerant of intolerance (as paradoxical as that is) and passionate about creating a better society in America and a better world for people of all sorts.

As far as the corrupt system of capitalism, I mean that capitalism lives on (wealth) inequality. That's the fundamental premise of capitalism--to make money, essentially. The goal is to make the most profit and that should theoretically drive competition, but competition has come to the point where many people are losing greatly in the equation. Everyone can't profit in that system. It is fundamentally unequal. Somebody has to be poor for someone else to be wealthy. Not everyone can be rich. Somebody has to be profiting at someone else's expense. And, at least in its current form, it has created ENORMOUS gaps in the wealth inequality, especially with the increasing globalization of national economies. No, it's probably not possible to ever have total equality, but I feel there are better ways to go about things that this country, as a whole, just isn't ready for.

And I apologize for ranting. It is not a personal attack. I have just gotten a little fed up with hearing some of these same viewpoints that appear to me to be lacking in taking in the 'bigger' picture and not seeing the forest for the trees (and there are lots of "forests" in Oregon). Maybe we need to rethink our fundamental political and economic systems rather than oversimplify the human condition to "border crossing is illegal," looking at fixing the conditions that led up to that, or the system itself. It's not about liberal agenda. It's bigger than that. It's human agenda. I think that's what many "liberals" are really trying to achieve. Maybe not this, but better equality for more people at least. And while many of my views would probably be considered very "liberal," I see a lot of "liberals" falling into the same trap too. And for fairness' sake, not all "conservatives" fall into that either. It's really become an American problem. Not that it's limited to us either...

Basically, I think the OP's problems with this state are off-base, obviously. Any further discussion on my part may lead me to get much too far into a political discussion in a way that isn't suitable for this particular section of the forum. Therefore this will be my last response to this particular thread.

B.S. on the job thing. I'm not talking having my kids work construction but nothing wrong with them picking fruits and veggys. I'd rather see them get hurt doing that than to see them get hurt being in the wrong place at the wrong time doing something else. I'm also sick of hearing about all the "itist's" that are going around with our kids today too. What a lot of them need is just good strong parenting without the parents worried about the damn gov stepping in because these kids are taught, "hey don't be affraid to talk to your student counselor at school" crap.

I'm sick of being tolerant to crap that is plain wrong and as a society should not be accepted. The guy lied during his campaign and we are just suppose to look past that? What kind of message does that send our kids? Sorry my kids come first before I decide if I'm being "tolerant" enough.

Capitalism: Works. You decide how far you want to go in the work force. Not the Gov. If you want to clean toilets then that is what you do. If you want to strive for more, then you work your arse off to do that and doing whatever it takes. It gives people ambition and pride. Not handouts and put downs that you cannot achieve that. Besides sometimes life isn't fair period. "Fair: A place where a pig gets judged"

About this state. I really like this state and it has a lot to offer. Most the people I have met are good people. Good conservative people which really surprises me because we are a "blue" state more or less. If you wanna know the truth its just not the politics in this state that are getting on my nerves its the whole country sliding down the hill.

That is true very true. Then again with the "Community Reinvestment Act" started by Carter and carried on by Clinton which gave A LOT of people home loans that had no business having home loans a lot of this would not be going on right now. If the Dems at the time would have let the Republicans at the time start to check and balance Freddie and Fannie some of this could have been avoided.

Most of the loans causing the problems in the current housing market are less than 6 years old. They were not a product of the CRA but rather "unique" loans and securitization of mortgages - bundling, selling, reselling and dividing into shares. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac only got into the alternate forms of mortgages in 2007, at the tail end of the bubble, in response to losing mortgage market share to other lenders.

It's the triumph of the modern Republican Party, once home to the hard-working class and now the home of tax breaks to the mega-rich and corporations, that this battle has been framed as the middle class versus the poor, when the tax policy since Reagan and his absolutely mythical "welfare queens" has been to distribute wealth upward.
