I should have said "frustrated," not "bored."
I have a problem with the whole school thing. I was a bright student interested in teaching. I had a background in english, music, philosophy i.e. NO-MONEY MAJORS. And after my 3rd year i had done enough tutoring and teaching music lessons from age 15-on that i decided, "No. This is not worth what is being asked from me in terms of time and tuition." I dropped out and had a 3-year battle with depression and alcoholism. Defaulted federal loans. SO, even if i wanted to go back to school, no one would give me the funding.
As far as work goes, ive taught guitar lessons, sportswriter at a newspaper, laid concrete flats/walls, pipelaying/excavation, hotel and restaurant mgmt. It's not glamourous like being a real estate agent or owning your own business or scoping out aortas and ventricles but its an honest living.
The problem with taking out 10-, 20-grand for even tech school is that its debt, plain and simple. Dont tell me there's good debt and bad debt, DEBT IS DEBT. College is a gamble, as is life. One has to size up his opportunities and make a move with the cards he has available.
Sounds like my homestate doesn't have a red/blue problem.
All these posts sound a bit yellow to me.

Hi, everyone. I'm Cammigirl. My sister lives in Veneta, Oregon. I want to move from Maryland to Oregon to be closer to her as she is my only family left - need to take care of each other when we get older, too. I would have some money, enough to put down on foreclosure so as not to rent & I have dog. Want something with a small yard I can garden & raise some veggies. I am college graduate & have worked in both the medical and legal fields-current title is case coordinator for state's attorney's office here in Maryland. So, would like to stay in this field (county, city, state government). Does anyone know how these type of jobs are doing or availability? Where would be good place to live? I see from other form responses that South Salem & smaller towns are good. Would appreciate some feedback or responses. Per some replies, don't know if it would be better to stay where I'm at. Maryland is very high tax/expense state, but I want to buy house before end of year for the 1st home buyer tax break ends. Thanks!!

I don't think a little rain sounds all that bad after plowing snow in 20 below and working in trenches in muggy, 90 degree heat.
Obviously the economy is a dirty so-and-so these days, but there's always something to be had if you look hard enough.
I'm living at home thru the summer so i can take a little coin to the bank and save it up for a rainy winter. I guess I'm just fishing along the I-5 corridor, although any shared observation is a welcome one. Thanks, all!
