I would check out Brownsville in Linn County. It's one of those historic register towns with a current population of around 1600. There is a place there called Bella Cucina & Bakery that sounds as if it could be the inspiration for your theoretical eatery. Here's a picture postcard picture of Brownsville from the 19th century (doesn't look too different today). Brownsville's attempt to develop a tourism economy based on its historic character was given a boost in 1986 when it was chosen as the location for the filming of the movie Stand By Me.

While reading your post, I immediately thought of Lorane. There are bed and breakfasts there, a small sweet community, lavendar farms, wineries, etc. Sweet place! It's just outside (to the south) of Eugene.

That looks really sweet, thank you. I do need my town to have some tourist trade, which this place might. I see I truly need a fact-finding trip this summer, which is easy from here. I look forward to seeing this place. (I believe in spending my recession dollars in local places and small towns anyway.)

thank you all again.

You might find this film-location fan site to a useful ex situ venue for getting an initial visual flavor for the Brownsville area. Filming Location: Stand by me

Didn't Tom Robbins set his book "Even Cowgirls get the Blues" near Sisters, OR?

I'd say that Dundee, Carlton, and Aurora are all worth taking a look at in the North Valley.
