Default Place to live in Newport, OR?

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me about Newport Oregon? Does anyone know where I might find an apartment to rent there? How much apartments cost and so on?

Thanks,

Artie

Hi Artie,

We lived in Newport for about 18 months--long enough to get a bad case of seasonal affective disorder! Here is a link to the local newspaper there that usually has apartment listings: http://www.newportnewstimes.com/

The cost of living in Newport is very HIGH. We rented a little 800 square foot cottage and the rent was $725.

Good luck on your move!

We have lived here for about 15 months or so.
We own and do not rent, but I would check craigslist because I was helping a friend look for places and found some decent leads on craigs. Also, go through the local Realtors offices-- that is how she and her family found their place. It was actually a friend of the realtor who had the place.

If you are willing to live either in Waldport, Depoe Bay, Seal Rock or another town slightly outside of Newport rent is way cheaper.
However, it is nice to live in town if you enjoying walking to Newport beaches, stores, etc.
I would agree that there are higher rents for not-so-nice places here, but I have seen several nice places with reasonable rents, too!
Here is one of the local Realtors that has rentals, but I do not know their reputation: moderator cut

Yes, try craigslist! There are sometimes offers on rentals in the "Oregon Coast" section for this area on there. Otherwise, the Newport Times Newspaper is probably the best source for available rentals. Mind the potential for seasonal affective disorder here that OchocoWesterner mentioned though...it can be hard to beat when all you see day after day is more rain and grey skies for like 8 months out of the year (although I guess it's not overcast as much here as some places further north). Newport is a pretty fun little town with an active harbor, two lighthouses, a brewery, and a small artsy commercial area called Nye Beach, not to mention a bunch of serene parks and beaches up and down the coast, but I think rent does tend to run kind of high around here. Also, this area of the coast does not have any major department stores other than Wal-Mart and Fred-Meyer (to my knowledge, anyway), and things in general like gas seem to cost a little more than average.

Default Rent a year...

Newport is a hard town to describe-you really need to rent for an entire year and get a feel of the town. Be careful about Nye Beach, some good streets and bad (crime and such) also last week there was a sewage spill along the beach...so it closed.
Good Luck
