Default Moving to Southern Oregon

I just came back today from Southern Oregon - was there for 2 days to check out job options. The job that I would most likely be accepting is in Talent.

I now have to look for a place to live in (rent for now, buy a house later). I only got to see that small area of Talent where the clinic was, but not really get to go around to see the rest of Talent. Is that a nice area to live and raise a kid? (I have a 13 month old baby. )

I drove around the eastern part of Phoenix a little bit to check it out. The other place I am considering is Medford. With rent cost, environment safety, etc. and commuting, which place would be the best choice to look into?
We are in L.A. so it will be difficult to find a place, and then fly back there to check it out, before actually moving.

Thank you for any info.
