Best way to get to Coos Bay...
My dad lived in Coos Bay for many years and passed away in Feb. I would like to visit my stepmother there.
I checked Amtrack, the closest it gets is to Eugene.
What about flying? Is there an airline, like Southwest, that gets closer?
I'm coming from Southern California.
Thank you for your help.

Greyhound may be your only bet, but I'm not sure even they go there.

Your options are the following:
Fly to PDX or SFO and take a United Express flight to North Bend.
Fly to Eugene or PDX and take an airport shuttle to the Coos Bay area. (search for Coos Bay airport transportation)
Same as above but rent a car.
Greyhound.
Drive it.

What are PDX or SFO?
What is United Express? A little puddle jumper from a major airport to a smaller one?

PDX = Portland airport, SFO = San Francisco airport.
Yes, the United Express flight is a puddle jumper.

It would make sense to go to SFO and then up, rather than to Portland and back down, but I'm going to take your info to the local travel agent and see what she comes up with.
Dave, I appreciate it so much for your information. I'm open to other ideas from other people, too.

You can fly nonstop from LAX to Medford on Allegiant for $65 each way plus fees and taxes. That's a little bit farther than Eugene (about 170 miles), but as a compromise between convenience and price, that's your best deal. You'd need to rent a car in Medford.
