McMenamin's is also a favorite of mine (could be that my husband's band plays out on the patio every other sunday though). Hugh O'Kanes (one of the many little pubs on the McMenamin's campus) has an amazing patio and great music!
Looks like we will be very busy trying the beer and listening to music. Sugestions for a nice, inexpensive place to stay centrally located? We don't mind walking. Thanks!

Take a look at the vacation rentals on craigslist. There are many nice places to rent in town. Also check out the rooms at McMenamins. They are a bit pricey, but worth the stay!

We're not sure how long we will be staying in Bend or what day we are actually arriving. The vacations rentals look really cool though. We'll check again as our departure date gets closer (around July 10). Thanks for the suggestion.

The ride on hwy 20 to Bend will be rather boring, there isn't much to see on this route. I would suggest taking hwy 7 out of Baker City and then taking hwy 26 to Redmond. There's allot more interesting things to see. If you don't want to go into Baker City you can catch hwy 26 via Ontario, Ore. It's a good ride on a bike, you'll enjoy it.

Thanks! We have changed our plans to go to Baker City. We've heard good things about going that way.

I second this suggestion. I've stayed there on both my trips to Bend and I love the place. It's well-located and unique.

My favorite part was that each room had a copy of "Bend Overall" (a guide book to Bend), and my copy had the hotel's sticker on the cover carefully placed over the "all".

That's great! We'll look into it -- think they'll be OK with a couple of "bikers" from Colorado?

They will LOVE it! The McMenamin founders are a couple of bikers, so you'll fit right in. It really is a beautiful place to stay. Check out the website, as you can find out all that you need to about it there.

Is there something going on in Bend around July 16-20? McMenamins is already booked. Darn it!

I don't know of any one thing specifically. Bend in July is the height of the tourist season though. Maybe that is why. I would call and see if you can get on a wait list, or find out if they have anything available just in case. They also rent out cottages so that might be an option. You should be able to find something on craigslist regardless.
