MSW Guy is on a distinguished road
Default Moving to Corvallis/Albany area looking for M.S.W. Jobs

Hi Folks,
My spouse is being transferred to HP in Corvallis on September 1st. Because of this I will be looking for work in the Albany/Corvallis/Salem area. I have a Masters in Social Work and am fluent in both Spanish and English (I am not sure if there is a large Latino population in this area). I prefer to work with adolescents but am open to working with any population. Does anyone know what the job market is like for M.S.W.'s or have any good tips on places to look for jobs?

Thanks

The fact that you are bilingual helps. We have a large Hispanic population in the valley. As for jobs...we are at over 12% as a state and many social work jobs are being cut. It will be difficult, but you do have a HUGE edge being bilingual.

Anyway...in Corvallis there is the Children's Farm Home which has group homes and residential treatment. They also have a therapeutic foster care program. It's not too far from the HP campus so you guys could ride together if that worked in your schedules. I would try them first. I used to work for the therapeutic foster care program ( I have a MS in counseling).

Woodburn has MacLaren which is the boys juvenile prison and Salem has Hillcrest which is for girls. All cities have probation programs as well. If you want to do outpatient work then any of the county mental health centers would be your best best...Marion County Mental Health is in Salem, Benton County Mental Health is in Corvallis and Linn County Mental Health is in Albany.

Good luck!
