Hi
My wife and I are both Humboldt Co. natives in our 30's(Eureka High '88) and relocated to Grants PAss from the midwest after finishing up graduate stuff. We love being only 3 hours from Eureka and family. Some family has now moved up here.

Grants Pass is not as happening as Bend, Ashland or the northern OR cities listed above. However, school district is great and it is a nice family oriented community. We have school age kids. A big downer was the closing of our library a couple of years ago---now open after a dogged and invigoating grass roots community effort.

Weather sounds important to you. We generally love "the climate" here. Summer is warm to us, but not humid. It gets to 100 usually 1-3 weeks it seems to me, and that is a bit too warm for me. Usually, it cools off at night. It snows here, but it is minimal and not much incenvenience(more of a welcome distraction). Spring can be short, but we love the long fall.

Gardening is great, grower's market is fantastic, lots of stunning hiking nearby, coast is about 1-1.5 hours, skiing within an hour...overall diverse topography.

Economy in OR pretty darn slow, and slower here. Not as many teacher layoffs as noted above, but some.

Nightlife is minimal. Some nice restaurants and locatable live music though.

Best of luck!

If you want warmer Summer weather, I suggest you move to SO. Medford, Grants Pass, Ashland, Klamath Falls, etc.
