Default Mosquitoes in Burns

Hi-
I was recently in Burns for a job interview. I enjoyed the friendly townspeople and saw evidence of a vibrant community underneath a rather remote physical space. I was surprised, however, about the mosquitoes! It was difficult to do anything outside because of these pesky bugs-in town, out of town-regardless of time of day.
I am curious to know if mosquitoes are a problem all summer long or limited to a shorter time span? Is it possible to go to the areas around the Steens or in the Ochocos later in the summer without being eaten alive?
Thanks

Yeah, it's possible--I never had too much problem with them at Steens and Mann Lake area--but I tried to avoid the area during the hottest part of the summer--the fishing wasn't the greatest when it got hot!

Just wait 'em out--they'll freeze soon enough!

Yes, I would like to know too. How prevalent are mosquitoes in various parts of Oregon? I'm living in Florida right now and I'm covered in bites---I haven't even gone outside! The mosquitoes are extremely aggressive here, how about up there? I haven't found any info yet about the various types of insects up there, out of simple curiosity, are there hornets too?

We've been contemplating a move for sometime now. With my husband's general health declining, we'd like a cooler climate. There is over SIX months of humid, hot, muggy, buggy days here where the AC is an absolute and very expensive neccessity. We used to live in California, but circumstances beyond our control brought us down here. We definitely want to move back to the West---just more up North than California. We've set our eye on Corvalis, Salem or Eugene. We are still considering Washington State too, but Oregon has had my eye for a while now.

Peace All and wish us luck!

This year is supposed to be particularly thick with mosquitoes in some areas and mosquitoes are found all over the state - many more around lakes than in other areas. Yes, we have hornets in Oregon but it's not as if we're bombarded with bad bugs.
