Hello All,
I will be relocating to the Brookings area in the very near future. I am thinking about opening a metaphysical supply store. I am torn between the spirtual and the physical. Would an adult (ahem) bookstore be more appropriate? I would like to bring enlightment to the area one way or the other. Please let me know |

SHEESH. What an INSULTING comment. Enlightment? To Brookings? LOL We have more than enough enlightment here. A walk on an empty beach is all the enlightment needed. AND we certainly don't need an adult bookstore. We have REAL bookstores. Quite a few of them for such a small town. Brookings is a LITERATE town. It is my considered opinion that human beings who do not find spiritual and physical enlightment in the beauty that surrounds Brookings should stay where they are. |

I see absolutely NO PROBLEM with the South Coast Lumber Co. Their "pollution" doesn't bother me, nor does their "noise". Seeing that smoke billow into the air and hearing that "noise", I am reminded of the fact that people are gainfully employed there and that that employment enables them to feed, clothe and provide shelter for their families. In a county with many people living below the poverty line, to me that's a blessing. |

Hi:
I am seeking a place to relocate with my 2 big dogs. Rain, fog, cold... does not bother me. I am intrigued about Oregon but am having a hard time trying to match towns/cities with actual location. My main concerns are affordable housing(220k to 300k) and a decent paying job(35k and up for someone with a graduate degree). I don't really care about being in a big City and prefer the more "rural" areas. What part of Oregon(town) should I look to? Also, any dog friendly areas? Thanks! |

I'm not sure either of your store ideas would fly in this town. We have a very strong Christian community who are very much against "ahem" stores, although probably a lot of them would sneak in and flip through the books if they thought they could get away with it. And I can just see all the letters to the editors of the Pilot complaining about the 'dirty book store' and the downfall of civilization as we know it. A lot of bible quoting and thumping. We get a lot of that in the local paper. I love bookstores, and I would love to see a metaphysical one here. That's one of the things I miss about living in a big city, the variety of books stores. It's true we have a number of small book stores in this area, and they seem to get by, for the most part. But it's got to be a tough way of making a living. Maybe you could combine the two types of store into one? That would cover all the bases! So to speak. |

You can definitely find a fairly decent home in this town and area for $300K or under. Especially in this current real estate market. The job's another story. They are hard to come by and not very specialized. Check the Pilot's want ads for listings. It is definitely a dog friendly area. Everyone has a dog or two. |
