Apparently I'm living in the wrong part of Oregon!! I adore cowboys, and havent seen a single one, educated or otherwise, in several years now.And I have lived here almost my entire life. Not since I went to the Penalton Roundup Rodeo about 6yrs back have I seen men in cowboy attire and attitude. Please do, direct me to all these cowboys.
As for the backwood hicks, Im sure our local Walmart has a fair share. None are armed though, and I do count that as a blessing. There is a local one I know, and he and his family bring us an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies from their garden, free of pestisides and other unnatural substances. He does this out of the goodness of his heart and his want to share with his neighbors/friends. Should I shun him though, since he doesnt have a college education? He drives a second hand car, has some dents in it, he favors jeans and sweatshirts, and I doubt he owns any article of clothing that cost him over $100.00. Does this make him less of a person? Today, I am looking out my window at a sparking blue bay. The sun is shining and only a slight breeze. Its been like this for quite awhile now. Ive had to go out and water my plants because of the lack of rain. I didnt even realize it was so "Gloomy" here. Oh yes, there are a lot of spanish speaking mexicans here. Almost as many of them as there are snotty, self serving, worthless, idiots from Southern California who moved up here, pushed our housing prices up, and do nothing but complain. Personally, AeroAngel, I wish you'd move back to southern california too. You obviously can/wont see the good that is here in Oregon and we dont need people like you. Good luck in moving back. As far as Im concerned all of you Californians can all go home. You have turned Oregon in to a little LA, driven up the price of property sky high and brought all of your problems with you. Go back to Fairy land.

Altamont is a suburb of Klamath Falls. Klamath Falls gets cold in the winter and quite a bit of snow. It can get to -25F

Wow you guys aren't exactly the welcoming committee huh? lot of resentment and blame for natural progression, must be nice to have someone to point the finger of blame at, the comments by aero angel were bad but the retorts make you just want to pack up and move right away, I was looking at checking it out but now it seems like not such a good idea, anyone have anything positive to say? sounds like a little racism too huh?

Petenadi,
If you look at my other posts, I have said before that there are people from all over, including Californians, who we welcome to come and live here, enjoy our state and have them become Oregonians. IF they are here to bring something positive to our state. I have said before, I have friends, (and my step-mom) who are previous californians and are now Oregonians, who strive to make Oregon a better place to live and are incredible, wonderful people. That type of person, we definatly welcome here. The downside, is many of the people who have moved here from California (especially southern for some reason) tend to be very rude, stuck up, and even after years of living here, still call themselves Californians saying "I'll NEVER be an Oregonian! Im better than that" Ive delt with so many who will out and out say that anyone born and raised in Oregon is beneath them. That attitude, i just dont understand and have gotten sick of trying to tolerate. We recently hired a girl who has lived here for about 4 years, transfered from California. And each and every blessed day, she complains about Oregon and talks of how much she misses California. When confronted she says "Oregon WILL BE the "New California" its just a matter of time" Please understand our frustration too, in a recent study, 70%of house/land sales in the last 3 years have been to people from California. And our housing prices have tripled. THats very frustrating. When people come in and say "Oh yeah, i sold my house in Ca. for 600thous. and bought one 3x that size here for 200thous., Oregon sucks but here i can buy a bigger/better house and have enough $$ left over to not have to work anymore" Its hard for those of us who actually love this state and cant hardly hang on here anymore. I hear complaints on sunny beautiful days about how the weather in Ca. is sooo much better.Always, everything about Ca. is better. Very very maddening. Again though, I will say, there are some who have moved here from Ca. that are wonderful, gracious, positive people we are glad to have living here with us as Oregonians. Just please, if you hate it so much, quit complaining about it, and comparing us negativaly, and move back! Otherwise, welcome. |

Salem and Medford are buttholes.
Eugene is nice but rainy as heck, Bend is EXCELLENT but does get cold in the summer time and it's high dollars when it comes to real estate there. |

I grew up in San Diego and moved to Olympia WA in 1980. I was divorced in the late 80s and so my situtation with my children have kept me here since. The last of my children grew up and left home a year ago. I'm 46 and I'm tired of the cold wet weather we have most of the year around here in Western WA. I love the summers, but the are short and the tempts drop very quickly into cold, sometime 30-40 degrees within hours. You'll be wearing shorts and then freezing your ass off in no time at all. Needless to say I'm ready to relocate to a warmer place. I've been doing a ton of research on southern OR because I don't want to move back to CA. Medford OR is a very unique place. It is sort of a banana belt of So. OR. The tempts can get very warm. In fact I'm a winemaker by hobby and I can actually grow wine grapes like Merlot and Cabernet in Medford because it has enough heat units. They are making some of the best Merlot in the world from grapes in the Medford area. This says a lot for it's climate. It's like a mini Napa Valley. So after months of study and a number of visits there throughout the year, we have decided to move there when the time is right. Medford in in a cool valley surround by mountains with the huge Rogue river running down through the middle of the valley. It is an agricultural town by history but is quickly turning into quite the little subburban area as of the last couple of years. housing values shot up 30% just last year. The time is right to buy there as land values will increased significantly. Definately set your sites on the area if sunshine is what you like.

Does oregon think it is its own country? Please! These remarks and anger towards Californians show that you are just jealous of them. Housing Prices are going up all over the country (unless you want to live in Youngstown, Ohio), get used to it, it's life.

Bob oh boy, a lot of you are bringing up this riff with Californians. Well, I am a native Oregonian and my step grandfather even resented me when I would come to visit. We were in the kitchen having decaffeinated coffee and cookies when out of the blue he said, And how much money do you make anyway.” I could never get him to understand that his income is tied to the economy of the local area. When Californians move to Oregon, they bring a lot of money with them and their willingness to spend it. All of the money spent raises the standard of living of all people in the area so they too can afford nice homes and new cars. My first 21 years was spent in Oregon. I moved to Flint, Michigan to better my income. It took me 19 years to learn that if I wanted my income to grow, I had to move once again. I chose San Diego, California. Now that I am retired, I want to move back home to my Oregon. I was born in Portland, raised in Roseburg, and last lived in Salem. I love small towns and miss the friendliness of its people. I hope you will welcome me back home.
