Humm, Roma, let me guess, you are from California. Why in the world would i be jeolous of anyone that is from/lives in California?!?! That makes utterly no sense at all. What an odd comment.
And no, I certainly dont think Oregon is a "country", Im well aware it is a State. Again, odd comment.
Yes, I also know housing prices are going to be rising all the way across the country for the most part. Its how quick they are rising here and the fact that again "70%of house/land sales in the last 3 years have been to people from California"
Again, please, try to re-read my post and look at my point. If you are going to move here, be a postive person who can bring something GOOD to Oregon. If you are going to live here, at least attempt to find something good about Oregon, dont complain constantly about the STATE and whine all the time about how wonderful California is. If California was so perfect, there wouldnt be such hordes of people making a run out of there.
Clear2Land, come on home. We still have plenty of small towns with open arms
Tiffany

There are two things to really like about Oregon. One is its beauty. Oregon has a beautiful coast, snowcapped mountains, rivers full of fish, mountains covered with trees and it even has a desert. The best part about Oregon is its friendly people. You will find making friends in Oregon easy.

I'm in a very small town in the NE area, and no, it's not as bad as LA but still very annoying!

As for the backwood hicks, Im sure our local Walmart has a fair share. None are armed though, and I do count that as a blessing. There is a local one I know, and he and his family bring us an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies from their garden, free of pestisides and other unnatural substances. He does this out of the goodness of his heart and his want to share with his neighbors/friends. Should I shun him though, since he doesnt have a college education? He drives a second hand car, has some dents in it, he favors jeans and sweatshirts, and I doubt he owns any article of clothing that cost him over $100.00. Does this make him less of a person?
Today, I am looking out my window at a sparking blue bay. The sun is shining and only a slight breeze. Its been like this for quite awhile now. Ive had to go out and water my plants because of the lack of rain. I didnt even realize it was so "Gloomy" here.
Oh yes, there are a lot of spanish speaking mexicans here. Almost as many of them as there are snotty, self serving, worthless, idiots from Southern California who moved up here, pushed our housing prices up, and do nothing but complain.
Personally, AeroAngel, I wish you'd move back to southern california too. You obviously can/wont see the good that is here in Oregon and we dont need people like you. Good luck in moving back.
Tiffany
Wow Tiffany, did you say a mouth full!! I'm happy to hear your opinion since this is what this board is about, not for personal attacks. The name calling wasn't necessary. And you said California's are very rude and stuck up??!!

BTW, I didn't move here cuz I wanted to, my husbands job transferred him, otherwise I wouldn't be here at all. It's not like I chose to live here As far as moving back to California, I'd love to!! But since buying our home which "pushed our housing prices up" I can't afford to move. Maybe you'd like to start up a moving fund for me eh?! I mean you did wish me good luck, right And I can't/won't see the good here? Honey I see just fine, obviously better than you cuz there's cowboys everywhere!

One more thing, the "uneducated hicks" I referred to are not the local farmers or backyard gardeners or people without a "college education". Uneducated is just what the word says, ie: NO education. The words meaning has nothing to do with the level of acheivement gained. I'm talking about the lazy skanks & addicts always looking for a handout and those sitting around collecting welfare (especially the non-english speaking illegal aliens). Anyway, that's my opinion. So even though you "don't need people like me", I'm stuck here so deal with it. I have to!

I'd like to inject a couple of comments here regarding So. Californians moving to anywhere. I personally love So. Cal. but it has gotten so crowded here that I am looking for a place to live where you don't have to take a number just to die. I have lived here all of my life and I used to be able to go do just about anything on the spur of the moment. It has gotten progressively worse as the years have gone by but now with the giant influx of the illegals it is unbearable. It is true that you used to be able to go skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon. Not any longer. Now you have to make reservations to do anything at least 6 mos. in advance. I am now old enough that I don't want to fight the crowds just to have some fun. My wife and I have looked at a lot of places to retire and have come to the decision that Oregon offers the weather, economics, recreation, health care, and non-crowding lifestyle that we desire. It is true that Californians have driven the price of housing up in most of the decent places in the U.S. The only reason that our homes have gone up in value here is that more people want to live here than anywhere else. God knows why. It must be for the job choices. As soon as those people get the money saved and have a pension earned I'll bet that they will soon depart. As it is now, it won't be long before the Hispanics will outnumber the other races so California will not always be the place it is now. I foresee the day that it will just be another state of Mexico. Anyway, I have gotten off course. My wife and I just hope that we will be received in Oregon with open arms. We want to come there to be Oregonians and enjoy the lifestyle that a lot of you take for granted. We will probably have to work part-time to make ends meet. I just hope that there is something for me to do when we get there. Please don't judge all of us from down here by the same standards. There are still some nice folks left on the planet. Can't wait to get there.

ItchyFeet, your description of California is honest and accurate. In my telephone conversations lately, I have been asking Oregonian's if they are native to the state or not. So far, I have yet to find one. Most everyone seems to be from someplace else. Based on the population of Oregon, it will remain one of America's best kept secrets.

As a native Oregonian, I for one welcome you to my home state. You will fit in nicely with the rest of the people from someplace else. Oregon and Oregonian's alike need to grow their income and it can't grow without new businesses and new people moving to the area.

All you need be is a card carrying citizen of the good old USA. Those that are not legal, will be sent back to Mexico. If you brake the law, you best do that someplace else. There is no parole in Oregon.

The beautiful thing about So. Oregon is the 4 seasons and the people. Generally those who move here want something different. The rain keeps the air clean, the heat and sun keep the forests strong, the transitions from winter to summer and summer to winter are awesome.
Ask and you will receive.

Just wanted to say that I think it's best when moving to a new place to act like a polite guest. Try not to be too much trouble. Do your best to follow local customs. Don't make unfavorable comparisons -- or, if you must, do it in private, not in front of your hosts. There will always be some things about your old home that you prefer to your new home, because that's what you're used to. Oregon seems to have a lot of great things going for it.

Default Oregon as a country?

As a native Oregonian that lived in California a little bit, I did get alot of Californians that thought we were snotty. We do have alot of reasons to be snotty (not about California though). Oregon was one of the first to bring up the right to die, has a higher minimum state wage (by quite a bit) than the nation, the right to use marijuana as a medicinal use (expecting flack for that one), and the beatnick age started by Oregonians. Native Oregonians are concerned because the population of the state has increased by 160% since ten years ago (according to an article I read) and we fear that our generosity, right to die, strong regard of liberal choices, minimum wage, and resistance to sales tax will dwindle away by those new to the traditions of Oregon. Oregonians HATED sales tax and used to resist it by 90% of the vote. Lately, I hear more and more people that come from sales tax states speak of bringing sales tax. There's a pride we have that we don't make the poor poorer and it's a pity when we hear that. We've also been one of the first to insist on recycling at a large scale level, environmentally aware, have the highest amount of aethiests in the US (25%+) and economically can hold our own. I keep hearing Californians say "you should thank us for bringing money to you." That's a loaded statement. You could thank the Pacific Northwest for bringing computers and software (Hewitt-Packard, Microsoft), shoes, wood, and water to you. We're a sharing state, don't get me wrong but I question the statement that we're desperate for money. All we would need as a snotty community is to stop sending out water and wood. There is a reason that Oregon's state motto is "She Flies With Her Own Wings." I love California and Californians. I love their history, cultures, cities, and parks but that's not going to make me think California is a superior state to Oregon. It was those willing to change their ways and take a risk that founded us and provided us the culture of adaptability and a reason to have a chip on our shoulder. I've heard that California, if it left the union, could be the 4th most prosperous nation in the world. I agree. And when you need a good ol' glass of cold water, give us a nod, we'll be happy to oblige.
