Is this forum being written by kids? What year do we live in? I cant belive all these messages about Oregon this and California that like a bunch of silly school kids; my state can beat up your state ha ha; so pathetic. I am from CA. born and raised and the only reason I came acrosss this playground is because I might be moving to Oregon. The last time I looked at a map it said THE UNITED STATES. Let me enlighten those people who have been living in the woods or a cave for the past 5 years, property prices have jumped just about all over America and if it hasnt yet where your at it will. This might be a shocker to some its not Californias fault either. If your life sucks that bad do something about it and stop crying, life is to short to for that nonsense. one love.

I feel the same way. I was looking into Oregon as a future home. I am slowly being pushed out of California with rising prices among other things. Why are some Oregon people saying Californian's are driving up their home values? Who then is driving up ours making it impossible for families to buy here? Why this blame? Does everyone from other states feel this way about Californian's? I have never heard so many derogatory comments toward a people of one state. This is very sad to me. I love California. Have lived here all my life. But I won't be able to stay much longer. And I certainly don't think I have done anything to cause it. I always thought the people of Oregon could be my new friends.

California vs Oregon.. I was always told it was started my the late Gov.Tom McCall. His mantra was "Dont Californicate Oregon" and people lined up with him on that, and the attitude stuck. Also, this thread is somewhat of a novel so I did not read all the way through(I get the jist of it) so I apologize if my post is a rerun

Please, remember this thread has just SOME peoples thoughts/opinions on it. And some of these posts are by people who do not live in Oregon. Yes, SOME people in Oregon say our rising home prices are due to those moving from Cali. But theres also SOME people from Cali. that brag on and on about how much the sold their little house for in Cali and come here and buy a McMansion. Those on both side only represent SOME. By far from ALL. No, not EVERYONE from Oregon, or other states hate and blame Californians for their woes. Ive lived here all my life. I have never been rude/cruel/blameful for anyone just because of the state they are from. And I have plenty of friends and family that are the same. Just like you get tired of hearing "Everyone in Oregon Hates Everyone from California" SO DO I!!!!! I get so so so tired of constantly being stereotyped that "Oregonians all hate Californians.....Oregonians think Californians are to blame for rising costs" One of my very best and dearest friends is from Southern California. Our new neighbors are too and I think theyre quite nice. We've already told them we're more than happy to help them out with their move and all, and we'll keep an eye on their new home til they are here for good. (moving in stages) I know your post didnt say ALL Oregonians were so derogitory and whatnot. Its just seeing post after post after post stereo typing that most/all of us who live here are like that. And yes, Im sure you will find plenty of friends here in Oregon. We're not in a seperate country, its just a state line. And please believe me, a huge part of Oregon is inhabited from people originally from other states. many many from California included.
Please, dont base your thoughts on Oregonians based on a few posts by some rude, ignorant idiots that find pleasure in being mean and petty. And I wont base mine on the rude ignorant ones on the other side of the fence.
Best of luck on your possible move. I do hope you will come and visit Oregon and talk in person to some who live here and can give you a realistic view. I think you'll find it much different than the vibe off this thread. Please feel free to PM me if you wish too. Id love to be of any help.
Tiffany

Default Would you consider Gresham, Or?

Portland is a weird place to me but I don't mind being close enough to visit or work there if I had to. A great alternative though is the City of Gresham, about 15 minutes east of Portland via hwy 84. Gresham is a wide flat city that just feels close to everything and has no tall buildings. It is also right by the Columbia river gorge which is a fun place to drive up and go hiking or see waterfalls.

Default Moving to Oregon

We are contemplating on moving to Roseburg, OR from Toledo, OH because of job offer. There is also an option of staying in OH for another job offer on a small town here (Hillsboro - an hour away from Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton). We are so torn between the two places. Any inputs?

Thanks so much!

Talking Moving to Oregon

I am originally from San Diego, Calif. and now living in Oregon since 1999. My husband and I love it here. We have met soooooo many friendly people here. I have heard prior to moving here how Oregonians don't like Californians. But, don't listen to rumors. It is very friendly here and we have found Eugene, Oregon is where we plan to retire and stay permanently. I don't know anything about Roseburg, except I think what I have seen is a quaint little town.
Eugene has lots of work for everyone. Every town has there down side, but then again they have a lot of up sides too. What one needs to do is make the best of where one lives. We can't all like the same thing or it would be a very boring world. If one cannot make the best of where they live, join Triple A and get some maps, get a U-Haul and jump on the highway and stop at other towns & States that may hit your fancy. But, please don't people use this site as a junior high bashing page. We have been in many states (due to our 5th wheel traveling) and we have actually enjoyed our ventures, the reason for this: We always try and make the best, oh yes we bring our smiles and that can go a long ways in any language.
your friends Dave and Cindy

I was born & raised in Portland, moved to SoCal for six years, then moved back a few years ago and am so glad to be back. We're getting folks moving here from all over the country, not just California. It's all the west coast as far as I'm concerned. I like to think that we left-coasters all share a common sense of adventure and individuality. I'm not bitter about Californians selling their two bedroom, 1000 sq ft. ranch house for $700,000 & moving here, because I've lived down there and tried to park at the beach and drove around for 2 hours trying to find a spot. I'd do the same thing. If you move here, it shows that you have good taste. I'm flattered. If you're up here and acting like an a-hole, it's not going to be fun for you, because people here are more down to earth and real and will calmly tell you to go f*ck yourself. We won't shoot you. If you live in So Cal and love when it finally rains after three months of sun and think that you can handle going Nov thru Feb with virtually no sun, come on up. Raise my property value. Thank you! Just realize that a lot of you move back home after about the third winter because you need to see the sun. I can't really blame you for that either, because I love the sun, just not every day. It's unrealistic to me to have sunny weather 95% of the time. When you live up here and it's mostly gray for 4 months (I say mostly, because it's not uncommon to have epic sunny & warm days in the dead of winter- sunny & 59 degrees), you learn to savor a dry beautiful day. This is one of the great places to live in America & people are slowly figuring that out. The people that cry about it just make us Oregonians look like ignorant redneck introverts. Most of the people that are paranoid of the great "Californication" are the small-town folk. They hate Portlanders too. Isn't that what being a townie is all about? Wanting to keep strangers out of your safe little world? As a sane, native oregonian, I welcome all you Californians. My next door neighbors are from L.A. They're phenomenal people and they love it here and have been here for over ten years now. My life is actually better having them as my neighbors. Skipper11 is right on when she says "just bring your smile." When you look at the populations of the two states, it's something close to 30 million in California and less than 4 million in Oregon (nearly 7 million in Washington). The population explosion has barely begun. Just hope that global warming doesn't make it any sunnier here, the bike lane is crowded enough on the Hawthorne bridge.

Anyway....good luck to you.
If you loved Southern Cal so much - why did you come to Oregon? Go home - simple as that.
