I don't know if this post is even active anymore...But I moved to Southern Oregon in Feb 05' from San Diego because I couldn't by a house. I wanted to stay close to the Ocean so I chose Coos Bay. Now don't get me wrong- this place is BEAUTIFUL in it's own right,..but it's cold here, and gloomy and it just seems like the light is dim...all the time. Ever since I have been here I have been planning my move out of here.

One of our children lives in the Coos Bay area and feels as you do about the weather. They are stuck there for a few years due to business considerations, however. It is very beautiful, all right, but pretty isolated as well as lacking in cultural diversity, as our daughter puts it, not to mention shopping and other non-outdoor amenities.

I had never read through the comments and discussion on the Applegate Valley, and would like to add something that I learned while doing relocation research. Southern Oregon has much rock and soil that contain two of the types of asbestos which cause cancer in humans. Coming in contact with the airborne dust and debris from disturbed rock or soil can cause mesothelioma and other serious health problems. The cases usually appear where people are exposed to gravel dust from these rocks. To me, then, locating a gravel plant in a populated area is a very real health issue, not soley an "I've got mine" complaint. Where to get the gravel needed for construction? I don't have the answer, but any proposed land use/building proposal that lowers existing homeowner's quality of life or property values is a valid complaint and probably not appropriate. On taxes, a sales tax does seem more equitable than high property taxes since people who can afford big ticket items are paying those taxes.

Is it just the californians that relocate to OR that get the snob treatment or is it anyone that comes from out of state (maybe Florida) to relocate there? Just being nosey, because this chat sure is getting ugly in some instances.

Hi. It depends on who you run into i guess.....Im a 3rd generation Oregonian, and all my aunts/uncles/most of my cousins are all still here too, as is my brother and his family. And none of us have any issue w/people moving here from other states....we have friends that were born and raised here, and friends that have moved here from all over the place. Since getting on this forum board, ive been asking those who moved from other states if they get harrassed or had people make rude/unkind comments to them just because they moved here out of state, and not a single one has had issues. Many have said Oregonians have been quite friendly and helpful, and that while they were warned not to move here due to the snob treatment, noone has actually experienced it. Im pretty nosy, i even asked our newish neighbors (heck, they still have a house in Cali too, they spread out there time between each home) and they said nothin but friendly here for them either....funny, i had this discussion w/my mommy and me group just Wed....
then, i see on the board, these people that keep saying they have been treated badly by some Oregonians....i guess it just baffles me....... now im not dumb, i know there are some nasty rude people here, that are not welcoming at all, but hey, from what i hear, theres people like that all over the world, not just in Oregon..... |

Yes, I live in So Cal. I live in a concrete jungle surounded by some odd fellows. BUT...we have worked hard to make it the best we can! We used our "sweat equity" and improved our home, built an oasis out back, made it all a little greener. We go to a nice church and fellowship with good people. We work a little harder at getting to know our neighbors' names and smile and wave to them. We involve ourselves with civic matters and get to know the extended neighbors of our city. We get out of it what we put into it! You know; the love you make is the love you take theory.... We do a LOT of traveling! Bought a well priced, used RV and hit the road. If we like a town, we go back and stay a little longer! If not, we go home. We are lucky to have my folks who still own and live on a small piece of rural Orange County...we use their back acre to garden and keep our critters! THAT has saved my sanity! But before I was able to convince them to allow any of that (Dad's a control freak that likes pristine, empty spaces!) I used the community garden and the small parts of my back yard to garden as best I could. A small bit of earth on a warm sunny day will do wonders for your soul! SO. Yes, make the best of what God has given you for today. Grow where you are planted. Do a little here and there to make it more to your liking. You can't eat an elephant in one bite! Be patient and pick one area of your life to change and work on that just for today. Of course, the key to all of this is that I asked the good Lord to give me peace and contentedness right where I'm at. I guarantee...it works! I understand, this applies to the ones who already have a decent job and home. But maybe it's better than you think? To wrap it up: Don't think the grass is greener on the other side. It could be just because there's a septic tank underneath! |

Be advised that Bend is the absolute cesspool of Oregon. It used to be nice until all of the snot nosed transplants from California started to blight the landscape with ther foul presence throughout Central Oregon. A form of cancer if you will. Most Willamette valley towns now have an exploding hispanic population. Gang tagging is becoming present throughout valley towns. Guess where those gangs originate from? CALIFORNIA. Big surprise, huh? Methamphetamine cartels from Mexico based in Southern California flood the state and are being arrested on a regular basis throughout Oregon. Good luck with your move.

A cesspool could be defined as your racist, statest and narrow opinions. We all would appreciate you elevating your comments with substance. News flash, meth is everywhere, so are gangs... freedom |
