Hi,
My fiance and I are seriously considering moving from Northern California to Corvallis. We are both retired and want to find a friendly hospitable community and have heard positive things about Corvallis. Is there any noticable sour grapes toward us because we are coming from California? A friend of mine told me she has heard that some Oregonians resent people that moved from California to Oregon. We want to live in a amicable community. I have lived all my life here in California and look forward to moving to a cooler climate. We hope we can make new friends up in Oregon and would welcome anyones opinion to what communities are friendlier than others. Cindee |

Corvallis is a university town so they welcome all nationalities to their town. People who live in Oregon only resent people who move from California and do not fit in. I came from Northern California myself. My 2 girls graduated from the university. If you are not pushy, self-centered or critical of others then you will fit in fine. But, if you come with what is believed to be the California attude then you will be resented. Corvallis is a liberal town. Homes there are expensive so many people live in Albany which is 10 miles or so away.

Hi,
I appreciate the imput. My concerns about fitting in to anywhere in Oregon was based on a conversation I had with my girlfriend recently. Her sister moved to Portland 20 years ago and still feels the resentment because she is a transplant from California. My fiance and I are the type of people that go with the flow as they say. Since you relocated from northern California and are happy there I see no reason why we would not move to Oregon. I grew up in California during the 1950's and my how it has grown most everywhere. My fiance and I love the out of doors and Oregon has that and more to offer. From what I am finding regarding real estate in Oregon you get more home and property at a far better price than California. I enjoy reading this forum. Great imput!! |

Hi,
I am so pleased to be hearing such positive things about Oregon! I used to live in the bay area and that is a rat race down there. A slower pace sounds great to me!! Still want to check out Corvallis. I grew up in a college town and love the small town atmosphere and Corvallis fits the bill. Still trying to figure if we should sell the house we currently live in and then move up to Oregon and rent until we find the dream home! Is anyone relocating to the Sacramento area and is looking for a home to buy? Thank you all for responding with your valuable insights. C. ![]() |

I have heard great things about living in Corvallis from friends there, although you may find 2 or 3 Winter months rather dreary. I'd say go for it but if you have the opportunity to take a jaunt or two to a sunny spot in Dec-Feb it would help, I should think. |
